Replace many federal workers with those who are loyal only to the president
This is the key point that actually makes all this possible. From the wiki
It proposes reclassifying tens of thousands of merit-based federal civil service workers as political appointees in order to replace them with loyal conservatives to further the objectives of the next Republican president.
"Tens of thousands". There is absolutely not enough young republicans in the nation to replace that many federal workers. The outcome if they fired them anyways would be orders of magnitude worse than the De-Ba'athification of Iraq. Its declaring class war on Northern Virginia and its a fight the GOP would lose.
I'm from there too. I could feel myself slowly becoming that type of libertarian shit head growing up until I moved away. Libertarianism is the only way you can rationalize all the bullshit you see around you and still remain in that environment.
It takes a severe level of willful ignorance to work for the MIC. They're so close to the contradictions at play that whenever you try to interrogate them on those contradictions they just short circuit in a way. Often they'll repeat some sort of aphorism.
It's one of the things that I like the most about lemmy over reddit. The reddit linux community was toxic, insular and gatekeepy, even as a moderately experienced linux user I had difficulty getting help.
"Learn how to Google noob!"
Fuck sakes, I just spent several hours deep diving forums and Web search results looking for an answer to my question, and the only thing I could find that was exactly my problem was concluded by OP editing their post to say "Ah, never mind, figured it out." And not including the solution.....
probably because lemmy's pretty small compared to places like reddit and because everyone sees the same content with the same sorting, places like reddit make a few "help" requests visible and make them feel unimportant

I haven’t edited a wiki page, so maybe I’m missing something. Isn’t that an accurate statement? Until yesterday we didn’t know the verdict, and we still need the sentencing. Both of those absolutely should be added to the page once result are known. Hence why information would/will change.
They’ve locked the article, and it still states the ‘criminal status’.
I get that folks are engaged for various reasons, but Wikipedia isn't at it's best when it comes to current events. I feel like that battle will slow as time passes.
Still - a big thank you to those who strive to combat misinformation.
*And you make a great point. Make the edits to Trump's page after the dust settles and there is no argument about the facts.
Oh his page is going to be locked for years after this if they don't allow any inclusion. It's the only way to prevent it from being repeatedly added. We'll see how it goes. For what it's worth half the problem seems to be that he has a leading sentence instead of a leading paragraph.
The double standard by conservatives is just… stupid. That’s not how the legal system works. He is now a convicted felon. In a normal American’s world, Donnie would be waiting for sentencing, and often he could be sent to jail to wait for this sentence to occur, before he’s sent to prison(or probation, or home arrest, or whatever). The right to an appeal does not make him “sorta kinda, not a criminal, yet”. If he wasn’t who he is, he’d be in prison for 3-5 years, maybe 10.
Now, Donnie must file an appeal. This takes a while because he needs to prove the conviction was in error, new evidence, something wrong about his defense attorneys or jury tampering. The judge then needs to approve or deny this. Denied appeals, go up the justice food chain to the next court, and the next, and all the way to the Supreme Court who can all but void that conviction and Donnie gets his appeal (unlikely they even view the case). But hey, let’s pretend he somehow gets an appeal.
Now, 2-6 years from now (because our justice system is slow), Donnie can have another trial and have his conviction overturned. But this time he’ll need to basically bribe, threaten and distort all the criminal charges that they used against him.
Is unlikely his conviction will be overturned. His appeals process is just going to muddy the waters, but never bring anything to help. His one saving grace will be the “one juror” he knew would hang the jury, who could say he was forced, or something, to vote guilty.
Until this soap opera is over, Donnie is still a convicted felon. There is no gray area. Ask any other “innocent“ convicted felons serving time while they wait for appeals. Appeals don’t make them less convicted.
Well, they aren't alone. Blizzard and Activision is on my blacklist. As well as pretty much any studio own by Microsoft at this point... Oh, and Sony! Can't forget about them.
I have MAGA family members and it’s not just 1+1=5. It’s a word-vomit tsunami of absolute bullshit. And if you convince them that point 1/367 is not factual, they won’t accept that it disqualifies anything else (including the idea that he never tells lies), and you will have to re-prove that point 1/367 is not factual a few weeks later. It’s exhausting, and I’m fairly sure that is the point (and I’m fairly sure this is also an actual Russian propaganda technique called a “firehose of falsehoods”, regardless of whether it’s being used in that context).
Thats our national issue, democrats care far less about the fascist vomit of the right than they do being polite, "understanding," and "reaching across the aisle."
J6ers tried to overtake the govt, hang em for treason. If their backers violently rise up, take em out too. Problem solved. Instead, dems make excuses for Republicans every day, say they can't do anything about anything, then push a bunch of policies to further snuff out the left instead.
Democratic politicians feel this way because they are mostly friends with their colleagues across the aisle. They all eat at the same luncheons together, hang out at the same establishments in DC, attend the same fundraisers and lobbying events.
I think the voters tend to have a different point of view from those in DC. Consider that even Republican lawmakers were running for their life on Jan6. Dem voters are growing fatigued with the constant gaslighting from the establishment politicians, and hopefully soon might provide cause for their “elected representatives” to flee as well. At this point we’ve been left with painfully few alternatives.
Lastly just want to say I do agree with full treason charges for anyone involved with Jan6. Obstruction was a laughable wrist slap, this is far too serious for such measures. The rioters kind of had the right idea but for literally all of the wrong reasons. It’s tea party republicans all over again (which was funded by Koch bros of course). Instead of addressing this in a serious manner, Dems considered doing nothing at all for 2 years before they finally started bringing the wrong charges. Pathetic.
They reach across the aisle because they basically never have control of Congress. Dems need all 3 (presidency, house of reps, and Senate) to pass anything. When they don't have all 3, they have to reach across the aisle to pass anything. So guess how long they've had all 3? They've had it for 4 years of the last 24 years.
And if they didn't reach across, guess what happens. The GOP shuts down the government like they did to Obama.
So what can you do move things left? Give Dems consistent and overwhelming victories in all 3 houses.
Rewarding them for moving further right hasn't worked for decades, but surely it will this time!
There's a reason they cant pull the votes to get all 3, turns out the people voting for Republicans aren't going to switch parties cause dems chase after them year after year abandoning anyone left of mid right establishment dems.
Everytime the Dems lose, they go to the center to find votes. And they find them! That's how Bill Clinton won, he went to the center (some say right, whatever). Gore went a little left and then lost. So Obama learned to not run left and instead ran on broad "hope". His reward for passing the ACA was losing Congress for his last 6 years. Thanks voters. Clinton went a little left on climate change, supposedly the important issue for the left, and lost. So Biden learned to not run left, and he won!
Every time the Dems go left they lose. So they go to the center to find voters and they find them. And you wonder why they go to the center?
I'm sure it has nothing to do with immediately abandoning those talking points once they're elected. A single Republican gripes and "well there's nothing we can do we're just doing their thing now. Sucks to suck 🤷♂️"
Of course, as illustrated here they're happy to blame the left though even though their entire thing is "fuck the left." whether its outright like it is right now, or the passive "WE'LL TOTALLY DO LEFT STUFF GUYS JUST VOTE FOR US.......whoops sorry someone said no so we're conservatives now"
Is this the conversation where I said dems have had control for 4 years of the last 24 years? Yeah it is. Dude they are forced to reach across the aisle. Because they have lost control for 20 years of the last 24 years. That's how Congress works, if you don't have all 3 then you are forced to reach across the aisle and compromise. I'll say it again, forced to. Because left voters never show up.
No matter how much you gripe, that's how it works. So if you want them to do left things, then give them all 3 (presidency, house of reps, and Senate) consistently and overwhelmingly. It's that simple.
(Want to go back further and include Bill Clinton? Then Dems have had control for 6 years of the last 32. Want to include Bush senior and Reagan? Then it's 6 years of the last 44 fucking years. Read that again: Dems have had control for 6 measly years of the last 44 fucking years. And you wonder why we have slow progress?)
Hey you guys I just had an amazing thought, wouldn't it be amazing if he just sort of accidentally dropped dead of natural causes or whatever so we could be relieved of all this nonsense? And Biden too...
seriously, I imagine what a huge relief that would be.
of course politics would just replace them with some other yahoos up there but can we just move on already...
I disagree actually. It affects your life but you can't do anything about it. What the politicians say is just hot air anyway. It's pointless to get emotionally involved and manipulated by their statements. Even bad for you.
I absolutely do NOT follow politics, but am addicted to reddit & Lemmy in my downtime when I'm not doing yoga or massaging people or sleeping and it's pretty impossible to avoid getting hit in the head with posts mentioning political figures every time we leisurely browse Lemmy.
it's exactly as you say, but i think moving on and on with worse and worse options is not gonna be better than the current iteration. and no one's gonna fix the social divide or the voting system. i recommend just stopping to vote and stopping to watch news. the losers have already won, why are we still playing
Local elections are still significant and will have impact on your area. These are the people allocate funds in your city - could be the difference in roads getting fixed or yet another pet project no one asked for.
What really sucks is my local politicians are very outwardly partisan, even though the positions are supposed to be nonpartisan. The surprising thing is that there are more liberalish residents than I expected. Unfortunately it's just not enough to change what we get.
You know I do kinda wonder what effect that would have culturally, especially if that became a kind of trend or mainstay. Like, obviously a big investigation would take place as to the cause of death. Doubt they would come up with anything, but obviously, huge scandal. After that, do the successors keep getting killed since they'd probably be the same or worse, or what happens? What would happen in response to that? Would they rename the party, launch further investigations, would they attempt to dissolve the party? Would they attempt to believe in different ideals out of a kind of fear or natural selection, or what? Would they all just devolve into extremely conspiratorial thought as they desperately tried to ward it off?
I mean, if they figured it out, then they might even just start putting them out under aliases or fake names or something.
What happens when the government figures out who is in possession of the death note and arrests them/confiscates the death note? I don't know what's scarier, some rogue nobody with the death note or the United States Government.
I mean the government pretty much already has a death note, of a kind. If you're not Gary Webb, then they could always just slip some shit in your water main or whatever, or otherwise just kinda kill you however they want. So it's not all that useful for them to have, other than being cheaper and maybe making some political assassinations much easier.
Yea, this is a good comparison. A washed up, talentless, lying, cheating, stealing, has-been hack of a clown, or a pretty cool old guy that’s been around the world, has cool stories to tell, loads of wisdom but falls asleep every now and then… like the clown does at court.
I didn't say it was. I said refusing to vote for him is, albeit passively. Hate Biden all you want, but keep the objectively far worse guy out of power at all costs.
Yes, that is goofy. I don't hate Biden as much as some, but I don't particularly like him, either. Still voting for him or whoever else the Democrats dredge up to keep fascism at bay.
Tut‐tut, I see that Clinton’s electoral failure in spite of winning the popular vote hasn’t moved somebody’s faith in the pseudodemocracy. Let’s briefly review the circumstances, shall we?
Starting with the national elections of 2000:
Democrats have received more popular votes in 4 out of the past 5 presidential elections, yet only gained office 2 times. Despite winning the popular vote only once in the past 5 elections, a Republican has taken office 3 times.
Democrats have received 24 million more votes for Senate than Republicans, yet have held a majority in the Senate in only 3 out of the last 9 sessions, while Republicans have had a majority in 4 out of the past 9 sessions.
Democrats have received over 500,000 more votes for seats in the House of Representatives, yet have held a majority in that body for only 3 out of the past 9 sessions, while Republicans have held a majority in 6 of those sessions.
Trust me, an overglorified public opinion poll isn’t going to stop neofascism should the ruling class deem its institutionalization necessary. The Fascists ascended to power in the Kingdom of Italy and the Weimar Republic in spite of their want of votes.
To be fair, this is partly how I've been looking at it. In the event that power gets delegated to the VP, you want to know the right hand man isn't an absolute crock of shit as well.
But surely even an old man suffering dementia is a better candidate than Trump.
