Was the original a joke about MMO learning curves with the top line being Path of Exile?

FiniteBanjo ,

You might be able to get through the story and a couple of maps pretty easily without a guide, later acts will be difficult if you specced really wrong, but if you want to run endgame content and league mechanics while on a hardcore solo self founded character then you better go get fucking gud, mate.

FiniteBanjo ,

I have used Gimp for years and I actually do not understand this meme. Like, do you not understand how image selection and/or layers work? What tf did you think would happen except for exactly what happens?

FiniteBanjo ,

I've used other stuff almost daily and I still don't understand this meme.

FiniteBanjo , (Bearbeitet )

Ooohh, okay, I get how that could be unintuitive. Thank you.

It's better to separate it to another layer so I do it without realizing. If you have trouble with outlines forming then use copy instead of cut.

FiniteBanjo ,

Also, it's clearly way more important that we let Chinese Intelligence Operations in broad daylight tell our youths to vote for nazis to destabilize the regions rather than peacefully coexist and solve out problems. After all, how else will we get communism if not that? /s

FiniteBanjo ,

China benefits from destabilizing the west (and India). Their online campaigns on various social media networks tend to promote misinformation, which correlates highly with conservative and far-right ideologies. TikTok in particular served as a pipeline into far right radicalization.

I'm not denying there is a problem within, and I'm not claiming China only pushes far right, but to claim that Chinese operations aren't noticeably impacting western politics in the most negative ways possible is just pure ignorance.

FiniteBanjo ,

I can't say exactly the scope of Chinese influence on YT or FB/IG, but we know they're 100% present. In fact, some time ago, CCP propaganda was flooding YT Shorts with machine generated content. We also know that FB have in the past been used for largescale campaigns to influence elections, they were fined 5 Billion USD by the FTC over the Cambridge Analytica scandal alone and pay similar fines frequently in Europe.

Yes, these sorts of operations are pretty commonly carried out by all of the world powers, but that's the highest form of whataboutism. It's a problem now that negatively affects us, it's not hypocritical to want to solve the problem. And China is #1 most problematic, in part because it's a top world power and a dictatorship and also because of the scale and frequency of their attacks on democracy.

China has been closing off it's commercial sector, recently. It plans to import less to allow their local corporations to dominate markets.

FiniteBanjo ,

Looks like you've got no counter-arguments for me, I accept your loss.

FiniteBanjo ,

Some versions like Home and Education might lack the options, but most Enterprise versions and LTSC versions can let you delay updates via the menu or disable updates completely via group policy fuckery.

Still bullshit that they have to, though.

FiniteBanjo ,

I really can't understand why people would want it, given the added risks.

FiniteBanjo ,

American here, never once heard this phrase used. Seems kind of dumb to have it, like it doesn't even save time describing the situation and if you're already talking about this then you're past the point of vulgar language.

FiniteBanjo ,

Remember when that time traveler posted Gibby with a Stop Sign memes about Queen Elizabeth's death but due to the nature of butterfly effects she lived another few years? Good times.

FiniteBanjo ,

I think there has always been and always will be exceptions for military technology.

FiniteBanjo ,

Like a fucking herald of doom I hear about new vulnerabilities on some Linux distros the day after I see this dipshit talking about it.

FiniteBanjo ,

I asked about servers once and they told me don't host a server under any circumstance.

FiniteBanjo ,

If you're on Windows currently and it supports Hyper-V then I recommend using it to try a few distros out. I liked using Kubuntu 23 recently.

FiniteBanjo ,

I tried Mint and I kind of didn't like it, but it might be necessary to keep a copy around after Windows EoL in 2025.

FiniteBanjo ,

No, the other distros are for actually using. Mint is for software that runs on Windows.

FiniteBanjo ,

Alright but whenever they actually accomplish it, you have to give them some props.

FiniteBanjo ,

You're in the wrong neighborhood, pal.

FiniteBanjo ,

"Monitor you like a hawk" is a pretty extreme exaggeration of the easily disabled telemetry data. Unless you were referring to Edge browser?

FiniteBanjo ,

Yes, the point is that the speaker is impassioned and confident and usually vibes with the statements of the original post-er, but they get zero sex because of how not interested in this niche the opposite sex is at parties.

FiniteBanjo ,

Using one specific source for the definition of the Unix Philosophy is against the Unix Philosophy. /s

FiniteBanjo ,

I don't agree with Nick, but the point of making such a comment is to be heard and it does serve an important role in society. It's easy not to empathize with a group we perceive as tiny and without representation, and it's difficult to speak up when you think you're alone.

Ideally they would defend their point, but not everybody has a spare several hours each day to spend on the Fediverse.

FiniteBanjo ,

It has been implemented, just not at the full scale they originally planned. It started in 2014 and was supposed to be finished by 2020, but has received a lot of pushback and controversies. There are people who are not allowed to fly on a plane, take a train, make a large purchase, or attend certain events in China, that is an undeniable fact.

One of the most well known examples is Xu Xiaodong, a MMA fighter who set out on a journey to expose fake Kung Fu Mystics by challenging them to fights. He relies completely on other individuals to travel, and has to send his videos overseas to be uploaded online because otherwise they get censored by the CCP.

FiniteBanjo ,

Incorrect, the Social Credit System started in 2014 and was supposed to be operating at full scale in 2020 but they keep missing deadlines. It is in use, has been for a decade, just not as much as the CCP wanted it to be.

FiniteBanjo ,

Incorrect, the Social Credit system was started in 2014 and intended to operate at full scale before 2020 but it's still not there, yet. It's been in use for over a decade, just not as much as the CCP wants it to be.

FiniteBanjo ,

When you're rejected for a loan by a bank in the USA you're entitled by law to know the reason. If your credit is good, your job is stable, and you've got no history of finance-related crime then you won't be denied a loan. If you're denied a loan because of the type of porn you browsed or some shit you said on Twitter, then that's grounds for a discrimination lawsuit.

FiniteBanjo ,

It is real, it was first put into use in 2014 with a six year plan to make it fully operational, but it's never reached that point. It not being as big as the CCP intended doesn't make it not real, it's still in use right now.

FiniteBanjo ,

Those two aren't all that comparable, but if you're not barred from flying by the federal government and the private airline or local airport stop you from doing so then that's ground for lawsuit. Hell, even if the federal government banned you without proper grounds, you could sue them too, people sue the FBI, TSA, CIA, or CDC all the time.

FiniteBanjo ,

When you get your credit report, there is a statistical breakdown of your score and all of the sources on the report. So, if there is something as stupid as a social media adjustment, you can contest that.

FiniteBanjo ,

I wouldn't click that link in a thousand years, you rube.

FiniteBanjo ,

If I clicked every link sent to me by some CCP cuck on lemmy I'd be reading for the next 87 years straight and none of my questions would be answered.

If you can argue my point then do so, if you can't then stfu. I made a pretty simple statement, now you have the opportunity to retort. Everything impacting your credit score is listed directly on your credit report, and you can contest these entries.

FiniteBanjo ,

On my main workstation I'm on windows but somebody suggested Mint for a smooth transition and I made a VM just to emulate it and try it. Cinnamon 21.3.

My takeaways:

I honestly have no idea if it's the Debian version of mint or which version of Debian. Kind of important to figure out what software can be used on it.

It's really easy to glitch the screen while changing resolutions. No idea what the hotkeys to change it back to default would be, so hard reset time when that happens.

TBH I'll probably just delete it and start on something more standard for my intended use cases. It's main feature appears to be limited Windows program compatibility but... I have a Windows, so...
