I just discovered that my label printer apparently disconnects from USB while printing. So for every label I print, there's a disconnect event, then a re-enumeration event.

The one thing I kinda miss from Twitter is that thing where you'd yell about the poor service of Kaiser Permanente or something, and @ KaiserHelpRep would show up in your mentions because they didn't like seeing their name rightly dragged through the mud by accounts with a hundred thousand followers. Novel compression method: we take all the textures in the game and describe them as AI image generation prompts.
Then, at load time, we run the generative image AI on the user's computer and thus generate them fresh.

The text descriptions are tiny compared to the images, so we get amazing gains in file size!

@foone in all seriousness the procedural elements to define a material in something like blender are probably a small amount of text, so while I don't think packaging blender with your software makes a ton of sense I wouldn't be surprised if something like this has been done on some level (sans LLM fuckery)

Specifically targeting the voodoo 2. (I know it's PCI, but there are PCI->PCIe adapters).

Silly Doom trivia question for anyone who ISN'T following my tumblr:

So someone implied Doom (1993) rendered triangles. I pointed out that it does not, it's solely rendering line strips for walls and sprites, and weird horizontal strips for floors.
HOWEVER: I was wrong. Doom DOES render triangles. But where does it render them? Because it's only one specific place.

(Outside of level designers making triangular rooms. That doesn't count)

Properly photographing a 3.5" floppy disk for archival is annoyingly complicated. The label has THREE sides!

I've already built an automated system to take a picture of the front of a disk, but really I need to take THREE photos if I want to get the whole thing.

That means either three cameras or I need to rotate the disk 90° and then 180°, which is going to really stress the limits of my mechanical engineering skills.

Here's a weird question: so Dynix made a text-based library catalog system that used Wyse terminals, and they shipped them with custom keyboards. They had four keys above the numpad: one of these keys was Start Over/New Search.

I just tried to order a pizza and it wanted my credit card expiration date, so I entered "05/28" (example date only)

it then came back with a "your card is expired" error. Uh, no it isn't? that date is still several years in the future.
