arch linux is the best propaganda for using windows that I've ever seen

@foone windows was still a worse experience, surprisingly.

@foone I have Arch installed on my main pc. I did it manually. It sucked lmao, but I actually really like it now that it's set up. If I were to have to do it again I'd probably use Endeavour OS, which is just Arch with a graphical installer like how every other distro has. But for my server pc, I use Debian so I don't have to touch it very often. On my grandma and aunt's desktop I have installed Vanilla OS, so that way it physically can't be broken (it's an immutable Debian distro)

@foone I remember that one time decades ago I tried to install Gentoo (when the instructions were all manual). That didn't turn out well. If I want to use a rolling distro I'll try CentOS Stream.....

@foone i see so many people trying linux for the first time with arch because everyone is always talking about arch

@foone Hehe, running arch on my private server with very little downtime. Nothing like a little adrenaline kick in the morning when things break :ablobfoxbongo:

But I was raised with broken Linux installs scattered through the house. Some kind of trauma is to be expected when you give a 6 yo an OpenSuse running on a Pentium III when he asks for a computer to play games

Only Arch I've been able to keep with long-term is SteamOS, and calling that Arch feels like a stretch. For everything else I keep crawling back to various Ubuntu derivatives like the pleb I am. I hate myself for it since it's annoying having to disable Snaps and enable Flatpaks every OS install.

Though lately I've been fiddling with the Fedora SilverBlue based Bazzite, and that's been interesting. Something about fiddling with immutable OS's is fun for me.

@foone psst. Windows 10 LTSC is best kept secret nobody ever talks about.

Okay, there was a music producer who did a short video of himself jumping through the woods like a mad caveman yelling about using Linux. You should know where the path you chose lead to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyXdE2h8uaU

@foone

And Windows 11 is the best propaganda for using anything else.

@foone I use Windows 11 with the class-leading Edge web browser and Copilot digital AI assistant, btw

@foone I'm a big fan of manjaro as opposed to arch. You still get access to AUR, pacman, and rolling updates for everything which are the only real advantages of arch.

autinerd ,

@foone interestingly I never had big problems with Arch, amd I use it on 3 machines 🤔

@foone Arch is the equivalent of looking around a car lot examining all the different models of car and then going "I'm gonna make my own car out of spare parts of all the other models, how hard could it be?"
