Xylo=wood in Greek

Knowing this made this even more confusing though!

Why not put the tariffs on gas powered cars though?

The fuk? Please help me complete this insane captcha ( lemmy.world )

Fridge fridge hamburger truck truck... ??? What's the blue thing? I thought hamburger would be the answer, but it isn't? I just get the same captcha with the hamburger in a different place. WTAF is happening? And what's the blue thing? I refresh and it's the same icon in a different place. I AM HUMAN!

In practice this works really well... coins on the other hand have been w major pain for decades!

Dont fear technology itself. It has helped us a lot to get to where we are. Fear it when jerks abuse it to gain power and money but not when it is used to improve quality of life

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

I understand that you hate the idea and that is fair. In practice though, this is really not a big issue and rarelly causes issues.

I happen to live in Denmark and have experienced this in person. I have had way less issues with it that when using coins. It is very inclusive and many of the apartment complexes that use them have backup solutions for people who want to top up in cash as well as solutions for when the internet is down. In real life, It is really not such a big deal as you make it.

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

The truth is, that you are the first person that I hear has had issues with it and to be fair it sounds like you are creating the issues

If this is the hill you pick to die on, go ahead. You may even be right! But is it really worth it?

I had to go check what community we're in because the downvotes you get don't make any sense.
I guess people like dealing with metal pieces like they did 2000 years ago

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah.. because the age limit of 13 is being enforced really well!

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

exactly - there is already an age limit that isn't being enforced, why would a different age limit be better

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

Oooh! I wanted to argue that its because Ukraine is not part of NATO but it turns out that Israel is neither!?
That makes no sense!

When did YouTube rambles become essays? I've seen this a few times now. Dont call them essays! Its just people talking endlessly about things they often know very little about but make it sound convincing.

Its like AI really!

IMO YouTubers are great at spending hours explaining something that should and could have taken 10 minutes

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

I do appreciate some 10-15 minute videos on a subject and I'd agree that they often are well planned and structured.
Many of the hour long videos though, I feel could have been 10 minute videos that the creator has put effort into making longer mainly in order to make the video longer (I don't even know if there is more money in longer videos, or its just a way of showing more ads maybe?)

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

IMO many of the longer videos, could have been way shorter, but are made longer just to make them longer

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

I dont but i expect its ok to express my opinion about them nonetheless

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

Actually more like a self fulfilling prophesy

IMO many will leave Linux just before finding the fix!

I had tried dual boot but kept going back to windows because i knew how to do things there without having to mess with anything

Its only after i removed windows altogether and only ran Mint, that i was forced to seriously look for solutions. Once you do find them though, you dont need to mess around with anything that much any more

Why can't we store energy generated by wind turbines this way?

I live in Denmark and we sell electricity to Germany but when it is windy, Germany asks Denmark to stop their energy production because prices are getting too low. They actually pay turbine owners money to not make electricity when its windy!

Why not simply convert the unsaleable e ectricity it to heat and store it to be spend when its needed as heat?

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. The problem is that the best locations for harvesting wind energy are flat and the best places to pump store energy ideally needs some terraine

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

But based on this article it seems like they just store heat and reuse it as heat when needed.
It sounds plausible to simply convert excess electricity to heat and simply use it with heat is needed

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

I understand. Here we do have heating delivered by heating pipes. Heat comes from local energy plants.

We dont have caves though but storing heat underground should be doable i assume

It just feels silly to spend money on not making electricity instead of spending money on storing even just some of it in any kind of energy form.

My theory is that energy is still seen at as a resource instead of a flow. We won't run out of wind energy. We will only get more and more of it. We shouldn't care quite as much on how effectively we can convert or store it imo

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

Great!

So instead of paying money to turn off electricity generation when its cheapest, why not simply generate heat and store it in a similar way during those periods?

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

That's what we call a conspiracy theory

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

No i believe that they are actively protect and promote their systems.

But the likelihood of them coordinating a meme based offensive against the, is it 4% now? of Linux users is very small compared to the likelihood of a self aware Linux user.

I am sure that you could turn this into me being hired by Microsoft to defend their agenda but in the end, the most plaussible explanation is usually the true one

cosmicrookie ,
@cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

I won't even try to convince you of the opposite or that i'm human. I even occasionally fail capcha tests so who knows!?

Charity is good. Charity in the name of god or any other purpose is bad.

My dude... you are debating with an account that is less than 1 day old and has less than 20 comments (most of which are with you).

Nothing good will come out of this when they need a burner account to state their beliefs

European here.

This seems to mainly only be an issue in the US. Socialism = Communism = Enemy

If at all anything, the opposite seems to be the case here. We're looking at the US as a "this is how bad it will get if we let go" example
