If we need a behavioral science paper to understand such an elementary thing, really we have lost as a society.

Researching why large parts of the population has been marginalized and denied access to improved life conditions (thus avoiding the skyrocketing dissent these alt-right movements are embodying) and/or improve the education system so that people gain "immunity" to plot theories some propaganda is making use of would have been a better way to spend time imho.

Good they are holding a referendum to give people the opportunity to choose for themselves instead of imposing a decision from the top. But I hope they do not go out of the frying pan into the fire, anyway.

There are many politicians who are going to profit from this event, for sure.

The occasion to ban opposition parties, censor non-aligned press and furtherly restrict people's freedom is too perfect to be missed.

"We must put a stop to further degradation that is leading Poland towards authoritarianism:" Nobel laureate urges Polish opposition to commit to progressive causes ( www.theguardian.com ) Englisch

"We as citizens will need to be assured that a new government would have faith in democracy, Europeanism and freedom guaranteed by law,” Olga Tokarczuk’s says two weeks before Poland goes to the polls in a potentially pivotal election on 15 October....

To me, 30% of voters does not at all seem a "minority". This is democracy, the majority decides and elects their leaders, it does not matter if not everybody feels at ease with them. Traditional values represent a country's identity, historical legacy and in the case of Poland, it is what allowed them to survive across multiple foreign invasions and dominations.

Unless the system has only 2 parties like US, with three or more parties involved having a consensus of 30% makes quite a relevant share.

Italian here too: I agree. The number of work permits for foreigners has been almost x3 last next year and x5 next year. And I agree too concerning the fact that left parties here are pro-capital exactly like the right wing. The working class felt betrayed and switched to populist parties mostly no matter their political horizons. The democratic party has completely lost its "identity" and the popular party too after Berluscon's death, extremists (far and right) are gaining more and more power.
