Another odd thing: those all look like they only have two strings.

ArcaneSlime ,

Random question, but how well known is my old German teacher's favorite techno song: Eine Insel Mit Zwei Bergen? To which I still remember all the words 15yr later lmao.

ArcaneSlime ,

I've never seen this video but I know Moskau. They look like they're having so much fun lol, and the Tony Iommi lookalike has a real cool hair/moustache combo, and the girl in white is a smokeshow!

ArcaneSlime ,

It is super catchy to be fair! And the puppets are just the right amount of creepy to still be fun haha.

ArcaneSlime ,

Hell yeah, that's weird lol I like it. These dudes kinda rule btw, I'm gonna be adding them to the 80s metal rotation with Savatage and Judas Preist and all that sort of stuff.

ArcaneSlime ,

Holy shit they have it on 12"! I need to track down a copy lol.

ArcaneSlime ,

Cool I'll check em out thanks! I like the name already lol.

ArcaneSlime ,

no way I'd be getting ass for features I don't have

Not with that attitude

ArcaneSlime ,

How 'bout "not spy on you?" That's a big one for me personally.

ArcaneSlime ,

Shame Adobe for their lack of support instead. There's still shame to be had, even if it isn't yours.

ArcaneSlime ,

1,2, and 3, all boil down to "Terminal." You could have condensed those lol. And get good dude the terminal is ridiculously easy and powerful, you can become proficient enough in an afternoon for all the copy/pasting from stack overflow you may need.

4, Ooohhh you haven't tried any distro since 2006? Dependencies are managed by your package manager for you, unless you're using Slackware and even then I think they have stuff for that now (maybe some nice person will reply with that answer because I actually want to try slackware, but fuck managing my own dependancies.)

5, Oh you were born the same year as the last linux distro you tried? Wild.

6, and we're back to "I've never even heard of Gnome or KDE but they definitely can't do this thing they've been able to do for 20yr." Bruh I mount externals from the file browser or the taskbar every day what the hell are you talking about? I'm gonna do it again in about 4hrs when I get home because all my totally not pirated media is on there.

Dude if you're gonna complain about linux at least try it first, this list reads like something some windows fanboy told you in the XP or Vista days ffs.

ArcaneSlime ,

Wait why? Isn't the whole point of dual booting that you still have your windows install, and you could use photoshop there?

ArcaneSlime ,

Hell tbh I never use my pause/resume button, I just hit "p." I <3 VLC

ArcaneSlime ,

Good thing I really only use VLC for videos and Clementine for audio very rarely, and if I'm done with the music and switching to video I can just exit Clementine! I use the volume keys all the time though, since I sadly lack physical buttons.

ArcaneSlime ,

Unless you have a framework, and can remove the bezel and confirm that they work!

I'm really happy with my new framework's switches, I actually trust them for once! I went to find a thing on how they work to post here:

"(They) saw the mention of the switches and that they are optical somewhere, but can’t remember to quote the source.

As far as I can tell each switch is a U channel with a light emitter on one side, and a detector on the other. The part you move on the bezel just breaks the light beam. This creates a electronic on/off hardware switch.

Using an actual physical switch would tend to be a source of an intermittent connection over time. Hence the use of optical technology. Same thought process for the screen open switch being a Hall Effect sensor, which can work through a cover."

ArcaneSlime ,

I mean, honestly I'd just be pissed I had to reinstall, there will be no loss (or minimal, just whatever I torrented in the last few days, important things get backed up immediately). Maybe 4hr tops including data transfer to the new install.

ArcaneSlime ,

Pssst, hey art person, when cartridges are fired the casing separates from the bullet, ejecting out of the ejection port. It doesn't stay attached to the bullet in flight.

ArcaneSlime ,

Technically the bullet is just the projectile in the cartridge, which consists of the primer, casing, powder, and bullet (and sometimes a sabot) to make the entire cartridge (or cartouché in french, idk why I know that.)

So at Aperture Science you fire the entire cartridge which is the same exact amount of bullet but includes some percentage more metal per shot, varying by caliber.

Though it is an amusing visual, a 9mm cartridge stuffed inside a necked down .308 (or so) to fire the entire cartridge just to make it keyhole.

ArcaneSlime ,

No I got it, I'm just having fun being pedantic lol.

ArcaneSlime ,

I understand that for sure, personally I'd have used another iconic projectile like missiles or mortars, if I couldn't figure out how to show the motion of just the bullet enough to get the point across with bullets.

It's just one of those silly things you usually see in bad cheezy movies or old videogame killshots, looks ridiculous every time.

ArcaneSlime ,

Ah thanks lol I don't actually know French so I think my brain just wants to é évéry é.

ArcaneSlime ,

They do say they harvest data from you, and like google they say they don't sell it, but they instead sell companies the right to advertise and then apple/google will use their data to target it at you.

You can make up your own mind if that is an overstep or not. For me it is.

ArcaneSlime ,

Pfffft it's so much easier to update when it doesn't shut your shit down for 1hr and instead downloads 573MB of updates in a tiny window you can leave up while going about your business and can choose when to do it by typing "sudo dnf update -y" and your password into said tiny window.

Besides, you can tell linux to auto update if you want, and you'll never notice it doing so in the background (well it'll likely tell you depending on the distro but if it didn't, you'd never notice as it is non-intrusive.)

ArcaneSlime ,

Oh my mistake, I didn't mean to say the wrong part took 1hr+ and it was actually the other part, silly me. Meanwhile on linux there's still no such annoyance. You do know we all used to use windows and got fed up with it's bullshit and jumped ship right? You can stay a frog in boiling water all you want, those of us who jumped out of the pot can see the burner.

ArcaneSlime ,

Lmao you really think "nuh uh the long annoying part isn't the download it's the install" is better than "well linux has neither issue" don't you? Bless your heart.

ArcaneSlime ,

Oh I forgot to mention "nuh uh windows doesn't do that thing it definitely does, you and everyone else who ever experienced it are just crazy."

ArcaneSlime ,

Lol sure buddy, whatever helps you cope. Why don't you go infect yourself with some ransomware hmm?

ArcaneSlime ,

That's what trolling you is for.

ArcaneSlime ,

No u. Sorry to disappoint, I can't dedicate any more time than passing quips to this waste of a conversation though, unfortunately I do have a life outside of lemmy.

ArcaneSlime ,

No u lol

ArcaneSlime ,

Beep boop yo momma

ArcaneSlime ,

Told you don't have time for bullshit, out touching grass

ArcaneSlime ,

Was last night, and it wasn't even with your mom, surprisingly enough. Now shitting at work, why don't you get yourself a life and stop with the permanently online schtick?

ArcaneSlime ,

No u

ArcaneSlime ,

I mean, I literally can't. I barely used W10, I just flat out am unable to provide tech support, you might get lucky and I'll figure it out but that's the best I've got.

ArcaneSlime ,

I just installed Fedora KDE for the first time from gnome and goddamn all these fucking Ks lmao! Gotta say though I didn't like elisa, installed Clementine almost immediately. I definitely don't need all these apps but I have to figure out what they all do before I go removing them willy nilly.

And it refused to update my default browser to Librewolf so I had to uninstall Firefox to force it.

And NetworkManager wouldn't work with the official fedora recommendation of how to randomize mac addresses, no clue why, it worked on gnome.

Other than that it is neat, though.

ArcaneSlime ,

Nope, tried that, and still SABnzbd opened up in Firefox until I ran sudo dnf remove firefox. No clue why.

As for the randomized mac, OHHHHH thanks! That's probably why when I put that config file there it was confused! I was unaware of this change, thanks again!

And thanks, I'll definitely check out your debloat guide, but I'm still going to have to do some learning and decide for myself because we'll be different. For instance I'm probably keeping kGpg unless I replace it with Kleopatra (ironically also a K haha). I'll definitely use it as a start point though!

ArcaneSlime ,

https://sabnzbd.org/

Just Usenet shit. The important part is when you run the program it opens up your default web browser, which in my case was perpetually firefox and idk why.

I've had mac rando on on fedora in the past and am running Graphene with it on by default, no breakages so far in about 2-2.5yr. Maybe my usecase doesn't need static MACs. The only issue is my home wifi says "a new device has been connected" every time I connect, but like, that's fine.

Good point on the hostname though, I usually use a specific name per device for my own sanity but maybe I should make them all generic "PC."

ArcaneSlime ,

Thing is though, it exhibited the desired behavior on Fedora 39 Gnome, if it was just how SABnzbd rolled I'd expect it to do it back then too, but since it's new behavior I suspect it's something else.

Yeah it does clog up the router a bit but I think in my case they auto-clean the older ones out.

ArcaneSlime ,

I may do that, but honestly instead of doing any testing I kinda just immediately said "fine, you don't wanna do it? Uninstall howbout now?" So idk if I have much valuable data for them.

ArcaneSlime ,

Nah, the police in my country can compel use of biometrics but not password/key. I refuse to set them up at all.

Outside that even, on like a phone, what if I'm sleeping and a GF uses my finger without consent? It's a security hole imo.

ArcaneSlime ,

I'm off thread? I'm directly responding to your comment, so you're off thread then. Guess you should stop commenting "off thread" lol.

By "linux challenges," you mean "nvidia challenges." Again it is nvidia's fault whether you accept that or not. You're complaining about problems with nvidia and pretending they're problems with linux, I'm simply trying to inform you that you incorrectly place the blame on the wrong party, you in turn are being obtuse, this is a you problem lol.

"The users" meaning "the company nvidia?" Because they're the only ones that need to change anything to support linux, linux users just use AMD or Intel, or one of the workarounds to get nvidia supported by the hacked together drivers that "the users" have made. It is nvidia themselves that prevent their hardware from running well on linux.

I'm not enraged by nvidia, I just don't give them money, I use their competitors. I'm not even enraged by stupid people putting blame on linux or "the users" for something done by their precious god-company and then doubling down on being too stupid to understand why anyone would have the audacity to point out why you were wrong and misplace your blame, I'm not enraged at all, I'm laughing at you.

ArcaneSlime ,

What is that, how you masturbate? B/t thumb and pointer with the other thumb up your ass? 'Scuse me, I mean 👍🍑 maybe that'll help you understand.

🥞🧀🍟🐘🐷🐽🐱🎎🎎🎃🧮🕯️💤
