Europol are awful, they are pushing chat control as well. ACAB and all that.

That said, is it better anywhere else?

maynarkh ,

On a not entirely unrelated note, Budapest's opposition mayor just had another leak of multiple unrelated phone calls, he himself suggesting that his phone may be tapped.

The government denied that the citizenry have any business discussing their recent purchase of the Israeli malware Pegasus.

In the East sea of China

It is the East China Sea not the East sea of China, however much the PRC wants it to be so. It includes territorial waters of South Korea, North Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and China, as well as a whole bunch of freely navigable international waters.

By this logic, the Indian Ocean would belong to India, and the Atlantic to Greece since they got to name it first.

"So will your party join The Left or The Greens in the European Parliament?" "Yes." ( sh.itjust.works ) Englisch

So Sumar's (Spanish party) politicians will apparently be distributed across both The Left and the Greens European parties. Presumably an image maneuver, since joining an European party usually doesn't bind your vote, and Spanish green parties usually get integrated in leftist electoral options anyway.

maynarkh ,

So what you are saying is that if there is a given vote in the US parliament, in order to find out how someone will vote, you need someone who can distinguish between the colours red and blue, and if you want to do the same for the EU parliament, you need a doctorate and a decade of intense study to even begin to comprehend the complexities? /s

maynarkh ,

Yeah, if you ask Hungary, one party is enough, they can manufacture your consent and tell you what your opinions are just fine.

Two party systems are just for hippies who want to believe they can change anything important while they get a show of tug of war on issues no politician really cares about.

maynarkh ,

I guess (and hope) Scholz is not like Merkel, but German leadership is kind of hit or miss.

maynarkh ,

Well, then at least some people are not idiots in the Bundestag.

maynarkh ,

Not from there, but didn't he shove a ton of austerity down the French people's throat, like raising the retirement age? There were big protests and stuff

maynarkh ,

And our best ally is the US. Go figure.

We really need to get this sorted out.

maynarkh ,

Russia would not survive that, and Putin knows that. Germany, France and the US maybe would, like Japan did, at least if we don't wipe out the whole biosphere, but Russia wouldn't.

maynarkh ,

I'm not talking about the population, but the government, the state, the idea of Russia.

If I understand correctly, they are just not letting the planes belonging to the charities to fly out of those fields. So it's not the landing that's prohibited, it's they can't base themselves there.

Also, you technically are required to take an extra hour of fuel because airports close all the time. In theory, the airport has the right to tell you to land it in the field sonewhere.

Not that I support the Italian government in this shady shit.

    maynarkh ,

The thing is that there isn't. Israel could continue to exist if they didn't murder all the children in Gaza. In fact, there is probably a derailer on the track with the people, since all this killing makes for great recruiting for Hamas.

    maynarkh ,

The iPhone workers designed, workers made, workers marketed, workers transported, workers sold and "landlords" got paid for. It really is a perfect illustration of the issue.

    maynarkh ,

I was actually surprised, but France even has 4 ballistic missile subs, and is planning to get more. TBH that's what we need as a deterrent, a credible second strike tool.

More integration wouldn't hurt though, maybe make the SNLE program a multinational program like the FCAS or this new tank is.

    maynarkh ,

A more closely integrated military would actually be good for the environment, eliminating redundancies would lower emissions, and shared R&D would accelerate the development of more climate friendly technologies, with the knock-on effect of augmenting civilian research as well.

    maynarkh ,

I couldn't be more of a pacifist, but the fact is that there is a conquering imperialist power with the stated intention of undoing the European experiment right next to us, and we can't afford to not have a military capable of guarding against that. That means we do need to spend money, work, and yes, emissions on that. It sucks, we could spend all that on much more positive goals.

And yes, if we are going to build hundreds to thousands of tanks, let's figure out how to build them together to one standard so that we don't have to support a logistics nightmare to keep that afloat. Or if we take R&D, what if we could come together and get the FCAS thing going, so we don't need to fly hundreds to thousands of jets, flying and fuelling a smaller number of more advanced planes instead.

And it is actually what you are saying, we have to operate on the assumption that Russia will park thousands of tanks on our borders and start rolling in. That means we will have to, and we will drop thousands of bombs on them. The question is, what will preparing for that cost in terms of for example emissions, and how many people will die until we can. If we don't prepare as if this is real in a decade, maybe sooner, then it will definitely be real.

If you want to argue this, go, be my guest, buy a ticket to Moscow, and try to tell Putin why this is going to be bad for all of us and the planet. I doubt you will be able to convince him.

    maynarkh ,

Is this the same AfD that got involved in several Russian spy scandals? It's an interesting coincidence their agenda and Russian interests always seem to line up.

    maynarkh ,

But you don't understand, as a man you have absolutely no issues in today's society that disproportionately affect your gender! Check your privilege! If a societal shortcoming affect men, it's their own fault, since they made it this way! Negative gender stereotypes only hurt other groups, if it's about men, they are actually helpful and move society forward!

    /s if it wasn't obvious.

    maynarkh ,

Is this because the EU broke the floodgates, or is there some other reason the US is finally looking into anti-trust enforcement now?

    maynarkh ,

This has been a problem for like 4-5 election cycles now. The US didn't do squat in this space since Microsoft, and even that was milquetoast. To be honest, they didn't do much this time either, for now.

    maynarkh ,

Let me be a downer, even if a similar change of government would be possible in Hungary, the "public media" is privately owned, and there is most likely a qualified majority required to even touch its funding. That means that even in the extremely unlikely event that the current government would not get elected, they would still own government media, and the state would still be forced to fund it.

Most of Hungary is owned by three families at this point. Universities, infrastructure, key economic players, everything from all telecommunications companies through McDonald's to airports, power plants, universities, hotels...

Fidesz being in opposition would barely change anything.
