A fun side effect of being anosmic is that sometimes I think I smell something, but it's just the nasal equivalent of phantom limb.
The best part about this is that because the smells I'm supposedly smelling aren't real, my brain doesn't seem to think they should be limited to things that would make sense to smell; you know, physical objects with distinct odors.

I just smelled slackware.

Pyxaron ,
@Pyxaron@dragonchat.org avatar

@foone My brain loves to do that to me all the time.

What makes it even more ridiculous is that it'll map a "smell" to things that do not have one, but it'll map it to things like "a blend of exhaustion, CRT monitor with a distorted line slowly scrolling up and concrete floor", which is apparently now a scent.

It's a bit like BSODs have a taste for me, as in, it's mapped to "taste" for some reason, but it's not a valid flavor. It'll make whatever i'm drinking taste off for a moment tho!

when I finally build my Workbench Keyboard, one of the weirder options I'm going to add is a way to paste pre-loaded text files from the onboard storage.

like you could have texts\serials\windows\win10.txt and you navigate to the that file and hit paste and it just types out the FCKGW- nonsense for you

Fun fact about microfiche:
One of the first uses of it was due to pigeons.

During the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-1871, Paris was under siege and they got dispaches out by using microphotography to make them small enough that they could be attached to pigeons and flown out of the city.

Bad idea: an external floppy drive that can appear as a mass storage device of arbitrary size. The way it works is it has a little screen, and you use that to configure how big you want it to be, then it formats the proper number of 3.5" floppy disks.
Then when the PC tries to read a sector that's not on the current disk, the display will just prompt you to insert disk or whatever.

Someone should design an ISA ARGB control box.
Then you can run a TSR to let you reconfigure your 486's RGB lighting scheme at a moment's notice

I'm still broke, though I've got a temp job for now: they've not yet paid me, however, and I've had to pay something like 4k$ for two medications, and another 2k$ that was supposedly going to make the 4k$ free.

So any donations would be great. https://ko-fi.com/fooneturing

@foone normalize asking people what to call their nether parts. Seriously. There is no right or wrong answer. Some people hate when you use 'feminized words' and just want you to call it cock or penis or whatever normal word. Other people may have one or two specific words that are okay for them. Personally for example half of the words in your post feel kinda humiliating to me.

@foone Hey, so, I did get one of these, but it has been a massive nuisance ever since. After about 20 minutes of messing with DOOM and stuff the screen corrupted, and then it refused to use the screen (blue), and refused to use it hard reboots except sporadically when it seemed to have wiped its CMOS. Seems you had a better experience, if you found any, can you point me at some BIOS setup resources or whatever docs you found so I can get back to trying to FreeDOS and TCC on it? (Maybe NetBSD 4)

My main problem with the idea of magic where you draw transmutation circles and such is that I am certain that if they worked, I'd be able to build a PCB to cast the same spell.
And now you've got a setting where your toaster works by casting tiny fireballs. Do you want that?
