I'm a just a small town AAA graphics programmer in Chicago. I worked on Gears 5 and Gears Tactics. My work is secret, but my personal projects are not.

I like to post about my personal research, various side projects, and I like to think out loud a lot. Expect weird humor, esoteric ramblings, and occasionally also art I made out of math. I like implicit surface modeling the normal amount. Amateur spoonie. 🏳️‍⚧️

Curses are just blessings with caveats.

3 million iOS and macOS apps were exposed to potent supply-chain attacks

Apps that used code libraries hosted on CocoaPods were vulnerable for about 10 years.

for programmers who use linux:

Do you know how to write packages for your distro's package manager?

and a followup for only the people who answer yes on the last poll:

When you write code, how often do you write a package for it for your choice linux distro?

(if this is n/a for you, there's usually a see result link, don't poison the vote please)

I keep feeling like I'd get more out of nixos if I understood how anything worked, but every time I read documentation the example config files are all written in a completely different way, and they keep finding more kinds of packaging systems in there. It's like if you crossed House of Leaves with American Taxes.

ok linux folks I know this is crazy but hear me out what if we just put each program in the same folder as all of the stuff it needs? like I feel like 99% of the complexity of package management is because everyone agrees that the obvious good thing must be avoided at all costs.

My main problem with the idea of magic where you draw transmutation circles and such is that I am certain that if they worked, I'd be able to build a PCB to cast the same spell.
And now you've got a setting where your toaster works by casting tiny fireballs. Do you want that?

@foone yeah the choice of material is important unfortunately, can't just make a spell circle out of whatever and call it a day
