I don't think that anyone should seek office who has a reasonable belief they would not end up fully experiencing the consequences of their actions in that office.

For instance, if someone's planning to move out of a city in a couple years, I don't think that they ought to run for mayor of that city.

This principle can be extended.

Curious that AT&T's biz customer shit would be sold to student loan scammers

we need metacomputers.

one of the big features of computers and how they improved productivity was how they let us automate a lot of things that we had to do by hand before.

well, most of the things I have to do by hand these days involve badly designed software.

I think it's not at all coincidental that note-taking is usually regarded as femme-coded work even in ostensibly non-heierarchical spaces, and that tech seems to -have problems- with documentation.

This paper is interesting. It discusses the demographics of those who most frequently engage in disseminating disinformation, and identifies that there are three primary states in which this activity is centered, and that those who engage in that activity skew towards "older republican women who are marginally wealthier than their neighbors" - which suggests summat for me and likely for anyone else who's had to endure small-town politics and the petit aristocracy therein.

There's a very specific "matriarch who is Involved With the Community" type that shows up in those situations - someone who is universally described as -nice- but nearly never as -kind-, y'know? Someone who will -absolutely- help out with the school bake sale - and probably take over operations regardless of others' opinions - who has the kids who are "so very polite and well-behaved"

munin OP ,
@munin@infosec.exchange avatar

The kind of person who you could trust with $48.15 from said bake sale and who will give a -scrupulous- accounting for it -

but gods help you if you don't give her the -respect- she thinks she's owed, because she will -absolutely- spread rumors about you behind your back.

...Masto is somewhat annoying in that it loses threading context so I have a bunch of people pointing out the exact same potential vuln and ignoring the thread discussing how that is addressed by the system in question.

I realize this is an artifact of the system but it's -really- the fuck irritating to see it scrolling by, especially when for some damned reason everyone is hashtagging the same thing.

I just tried to order a pizza and it wanted my credit card expiration date, so I entered "05/28" (example date only)

it then came back with a "your card is expired" error. Uh, no it isn't? that date is still several years in the future.

did... did this site just take my date and assume I mean May of the year AD 28? That is indeed very expired! that's what I get for trying to use Jesus's card.

@foone ....so he clearly wouldnae use American Express 'cuz that's 1500 years too early; Mastercard would be problematic; you might be able to make an argument for Visa if he opens the way, as it were, but that seems more a Peter thing....

.....would Jesus use Diner's Club?

@whitequark the really cool part about queerness is getting to discard the usual rules and come up with something that works for your use-case. It's like linux that way.

Unfortunately it's also like linux the -other- way in which people who call themselves queer tend to cluster around a few big names and if you do actually make your own whole thing they'll try to tell you that you're doing it wrong and should be using emacs
