For those who have asked, the answer is yes.

@tomscott
@garybrannan
Chris isn’t on mastodon.

@mattgrayyes @tomscott @garybrannan lol it's only barely correct to say that Tom and Gary /are/ on mastodon. :P

I'm following like 7 or 8 youtubers who set up accounts here more or less a pieds a terre. Hopefully someday they'll get some use out of them.

The American road system baffles me for many reasons. The main one being:

🔴 Traffic light red:
You can turn right.
There will be no pedestrians crossing. You have right of way.

🟢 Traffic light green:
You can turn right.
There will be pedestrians crossing in front of you. You do not have right of way.

@mattgrayyes This is correct in most of the US. There are /some/ intersections with dedicated pedestrian phases but they are very rare.

The previous post is more dependent on local law.

It's helpful to remember that the US is more like the EU than the UK. It's not quite as loosely-federated, but it's a better analogy.

Biden set to levy 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs this week

Both the US and EU are deeply concerned about heavily subsidized Chinese OEMs.

@arstechnica you know, there's no reason we can't heavily subsidize American EVs and compete on equal terms (except a slavish devotion to the notion of market capitalism).

Palm OS and the devices that ran it: An Ars retrospective

Before smartphones, we had PDAs in our pockets. Palm did them best.

@arstechnica One addition to the epilogue - Palm was zombified under TCL, but webOS was split off and bought by LG and it's the OS that runs their smart TVs.

I don't know who needs to hear this (that's a lie: ~80% of drivers) but when you're in a turn lane or an exit only lane, you should still signal to confirm to those around you that you are aware of the lane you're in and where it's about to go.

mausmalone ,
@mausmalone@mastodon.social avatar

@TechConnectify I'm trying to think of if I do this or not and if not why and honestly, where I live in NJ, a lot of exit-only lanes end very shortly in a fork.

Like when I go to work it's exit only into a T-junction, and I turn left.

We're talking less than 50 yards between exit and fork - it's the dense NYC metro part of the state and we don't have room for ramps or acceleration/deceleration lanes.
