Not American, but a furby surrounded by Biden's team would still be preferable to Trump to most people, so I'm not for this changes much. Americans around here seemed to mostly be in the "hold your nose and vote for Biden" camp anyway. Not sure how representative that is.

Time to grab your board (web navigator) and surf (follow hyperlinks) the web (more commonly, the graphical "internet"). Totally rippin the gnar, my gender indeterminate dudes (check out wikipedia). Yeaaaahhh (yes, emphatically)!!!

Can't read a book at the office? Working through a book whenever the queue was empty was one of the few pleasures of working retail/call centre

Condolences. I've taken to going to the coffee shop to meet my friend. Yeah it's not free, but it's cheap. For games, that's a bit of a blindspot for me since I only play good games these days.

Plus, voicing your opinions helps a lot to filter people (I'm struggling a lot with this though).

This is massive. "Filtering" is the perfect way to put it. If you don't risk saying something potentially disagreeable, then no one will ever know who you are.

That goes for both repulsive and inclusive ideologies, I guess, but I definitely prefer the latter (this is an example of one of your "filtering" statements - now spectators to this conversation know I value inclusivity).

Hmm that is a very good description of how I use social media. Fill up unstructured downtime, or to bridge a gap between two other activities (god forbid I go thirty whole minutes without stimulation lol)

Then sometimes just hours and I come out of it feeling like total trash

I started reading books and mags while pooping. I like it. Highly recommended.

Just got to have system to make sure you don't do anything unhygienic to your reading material. I make sure to set it down before I touch myself. I touch myself.

Here's your content, open up!

It's my cat yawning, but it looks like he's screaming at me (which he does do around 17h, his supper time).

Genuine question, because I don't have a confidant that I can comfortably ask this to, is that the general opinion of people with disabilities?

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

Thanks for the links. I will read them. I'll admit that my first reaction is to assume that speaking directly is rude, but I'm ready to do some unlearning.

@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

This resource is dropping woke bombs left and right (I'm into it). Extremely rich text.

... societal interpretations of and responses to specific differences from the normed body are what signify a dis/ability.

Not to glom onto this one pat definition, but it's one of the many paragraphs that jumped out at me.

I still haven't got to any part that is specifically challenging using "polite" language when speaking to disabled people about their disabilities. But with your question about why I might consider the term disabled a slur, and these links, I think I'm getting there...

EDIT: uhhhh nvm, the paragraph literally after the one I quoted goes into it, very specifically.

Some advocate for People-first language (a person living with disability), while many disability activists advocate for identity-first language (a disabled person).

I mean it's getting more academic for sure, but I think I get you - that's one of them there intersections you were talking about (neoliberalism x ableism, maybe (to name just 2 anyway)).

EDIT thank you, that was fire. A cogent and succinct breakdown of offense vis a vis harm.

I don't feel like I learned anything, because what I learned seems obvious (now), but if I think about my previous statements in this thread about rudeness they feel like they were made by someone else, so I guess this reading is doing something!

I would say "thousands" is not really "niche" but yeah, I love small communities. It's how I started on the internet, and it's finally where I'm back at now

Well you've convinced me. I always thought copyleft sounded cool, but never thought of it in this way of more/less free

I was trying to figure out why I was belting out this song while doing the dishes yesterday. Seemed like the song entered my consciousness out of nowhere.

Now I remember it was because of this cute comic, so thanks for sharing it

What did they take from us? I haven't played an online game in years now.

Even if it was the law I would fight it.

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

Yeah unless the story is good I'm rarely going to stick around for the last bit, which is usually just padding. Actually, good difficulty levels / other accessibility options have been a nice development.

Let's you turn down the volume on the gameplay so you can finish for the story.

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

Yeah I see that. I remember the disappointment of sim city.

It could be I don't follow games close enough to see what I'm missing. I find more SP games popping up in my feeds / friend recommendations than I could ever hope to play.

I definitely feel like mainstream AAA/AAAA and even iii to a certain extent have been progressively enshittified. But I've been at this a while, so I've seen how it's gone this way as more and more money got brought to bare on games.

The moment someone who wasn't involved in actually making some part of the game was expecting a fat return on investment was the moment the wheel of shit started to turn.

Nothing scammy about a good deal. Honestly whenever I see ".io," one of the pricier TLDs, I think vapour tech bullshit.

My opinion on this has not changed since signing up with an employer that ends all branding including domain in "io"

Nice! I'm not even at a full year and I'm like, damn if I'd known the dry life would be so much better I would've never started drinking. Physically/mentally/emotionally/(sexually) everything has just got better. Even things like singing and dancing (which I could barely bring myself to do after a full night of boozing) are better sober.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to go on vacation? I'll take the time off work, but I'd rather potter around my place, maybe go for some nice walks

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

That's me! But I'm a really slow reader, and have many other interests, so that number would be between 0-1 every time lol.

[•••] and I was thinking to myself that her way is certainly much less expensive

Maybe so, but if you like going elsewhere then maybe it's worth it for you. The main reason I don't travel is because it sounds like the opposite of fun to me, personally.

But I spend plenty on my introvert shit. Like just recently spent almost 100 EUR on these fancy recycled notebooks for my partner and I, because I spend so much of my time writing workbooks, navel gazing diary entries, filling out bespoke agendas rofl; all that stuff.

But that's me and my happy place.

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

Pedantry: it putter not potter.

I thought the same, but they're actually interchangeable depending on where you are, so I interchange them for fun.

I think it's a consequence of the late stage capitalist world. We're way too burned out to have the energy to go on adventures or the money to make it easy to do.

Perhaps at the level of statistics, but I have the opportunity to travel (now, for the first time in my life), but no desire. There's just so much to do locally, you know?

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

I love near a metropolitan city, so I feel like the world kind of comes to me. And each passing year my small town becomes more and more diverse, along with my work and friend groups.

Obviously not the same as going somewhere with different history and culture, but I feel like my cup is full. Like, I'm good for pleasures. 👍🏻

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

Yeah the itinerary thing sounds so awful, especially if it involves traveling from place to place to place. But I guess some people really like it that way...

I like to exist in place for my vacations, but my partner is one of those who need to go elsewhere every now and then. I look forward to her stories, but am thankful I don't have to share in them haha

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

That's what I always thought. Or thought it was just what we called stat days since I never got vacation until I got into software. Now that I'm around people in a higher income bracket I discovered we get more than 2 or 3 days off?? And folks are going places like far away, for long periods of time.

I still have not adjusted from this middle class culture shock

grrgyle ,
@grrgyle@slrpnk.net avatar

What can't be true?

I do realise there are experiences I'm missing out on. I miss out on plenty of experiences other than traveling, though.

It would be neat to go somewhere I'm a visible minority, though. I don't get a lot of that life, except maybe at weddings, big cultural events, etc.

Anyway my wife is a traveller. She gets that wanderlust from time to time, so it's only inevitable that she take me on one her trips one of these days.

The airport sounds like the worst part tbh so much indignity

Bittersweet memories... I'll always associate this game with being down and out.

There was a jobs centre where I would go to search for jobs, print resumes, apply online, etc. Anyway, this was one of the games I played while in between interviews, or waiting for the men's shelter to open.

This game along with Ricochet HD got me through the wringer without needing drugs or alcohol as a pillow, so I'm thankful they were there when I needed them.

Anyway that's my needlessly wrought story of how lofi windows games saved me lol
