A discussion from Tumblr about my Brazilian Pride Flag Conflict re: VGAPride got reposted on reddit, and it's hilarious how different the reaction is.

So many people there are like "why are you having this problem? MS-DOS? just design the flag in inkscape or g*mp! why would you want to design a pride flag for DOS?"

It's real sad. They just don't understand why anyone would write software to display pride flags on DOS.

I'd like to tell a quick story about successful troubleshooting.

A few months ago I rented a scissor lift to install lighting at my new office. When it arrived, the delivery person gave me a quick demo and off he went.

Well, when I went to actually use it - the lift went up by about a foot then stopped and screamed beeps of terror. It was broken!

But the display on the control read "18"

Rather than call the rental company, I searched "sinoboom fault code 18" to see what that meant.

@TechConnectify Depending on the thing being troubleshot, sometimes even the simplest first steps to fix the problem escape me. Especially when it's a piece of technology where 9 times out of 10 power cycling it fixes the problem. I poke at everything else before considering giving it a drop kick. 😵‍💫

@foone This suddenly gives me an idea of a keyboard with a "KILL" key that, on Linux, sends SIGTERM to the focused application, or SIGKILL if augmented with Shift.

@foone I've been kinda doing that with my python dice rolling script, but with the added fun challenge of also being able to provide an optional statistics report including the polynomial generating function that gets all the useful probability stats if --verbose is set.

It's more meant to be a fun trip into the math of dice probability than being a useful dice rolling script, but I get a useful dice rolling script out of it as a bonus so hey presto.

Hell yeah! 😄

I just haven't touched the script in a long, long while, because I've also wanted to have a little fun diving into the wonderful world of OOP in Python, but hoo boy that's an extra level of complexity that fucks with my head a bit. 😵‍💫
