I just was thinking that my mouse wasn't tracking very well and automatically flipped it over so I could try cleaning the ball.

it's 2024, of course it doesn't have a ball, this is an optical mouse!

but apparently my computer reflexes are stuck in 1996

@foone I refuse to believe that Foone Turing doesn't regularly use a ball mouse.

we need metacomputers.

one of the big features of computers and how they improved productivity was how they let us automate a lot of things that we had to do by hand before.

well, most of the things I have to do by hand these days involve badly designed software.

Farbs ,
@Farbs@mastodon.social avatar

@foone I'm pretty sure metacomputers are just programmers.

They used to be very expensive, but a lot of big businesses have started throwing them out so you can probably get a second hand one pretty cheap.

There's no drum to put the clothes in. This is a rookie mistake, Samsung.

@ifixcoinops @foone How to make a washing machine last: Call this guy.

His name is Warren, and he's a dead set legend.

Google’s “AI Overview” can give false, misleading, and dangerous answers

From glue-on-pizza recipes to recommending "blinker fluid," Google's AI sourcing needs work.

@arstechnica @KyleOrl I think what's most interesting about the weird results is how succinctly they demonstrate that google is sometimes just straight up republishing unique, original content without consent.

Dave & Buster’s is adding real money betting options to arcade staples

"Gamification layer" platform promises to streamline your friendly Skee-Ball wagers.

@arstechnica I was gonna argue that that's not what Gamification means, but then I realised rebranding unpleasant things in the language of games is always what it meant.

the world needs more recreational programming.
like, was this the most optimal or elegant way to code this?

no, but it was the most fun to write.

There's an alternate universe where Netscape Navigator embedded Lua instead of inventing js, and I'm not sure if that's a better world or not.

Farbs ,
@Farbs@mastodon.social avatar

@foone I'm probably wrong, but I like to think that if they started by embedding Lua they would have just stopped there, instead of doing whatever JS is now.
