NateNate60 , an Europe in Russia turns to blackmail and 'financial incentives' to hire Germans to spy to make up for expelled diplomats, German agency says

Glad to see that charging people who betray their country with high treason is back in style.

Mikufan ,
@Mikufan@ani.social avatar

Should have execution on the possible results list. The current outcomes are less than murder.

NateNate60 ,

Or maybe ten months in Landsberg Prison

Mikufan ,
@Mikufan@ani.social avatar

10 years in the mines.

pleb_maximus ,

Should have execution on the possible results list.

Ew.

Mikufan ,
@Mikufan@ani.social avatar

High treason is a crime that could cost thousands their life.

pleb_maximus ,

Doesn't matter.

Mikufan ,
@Mikufan@ani.social avatar

It does. It absolutely does. You cant just sell thousands of lifes for your own gain and then get less punishment than a murderer.

pleb_maximus ,

I know that you damn well know that we don't murder murderers here either.

In fact I know that you are, like me, German and should know what our constitution has to say on the death penalty and the right to live.

Mikufan ,
@Mikufan@ani.social avatar

People that break the constitution in favor of money don't really deserve to be given a judgment based on our constitution. They broke not only that, but endangered the existence of said constitution.

We don't kill murderers, yes, they kill at worst a handful of people. We do kill terrorists when they have weapons on hand to kill civilians. High treason is just terrorism with informations.

Let's be real, you would be against life without parol in that case as well. I would be ok with that, i just don't see how its economically viable. People trying to destroy our state shouldn't get a life financed by our state. And the current laws are obviously not punishing enough.

pleb_maximus ,

So in short: you are fundamentally opposed to the core values of our constitution and are an enemy of it. Got it.

Komisch. Da steht schon wieder nix davon, dass manche davon ausgeschlossen seien. Wie kommt das nur?

Serinus , an Europe in Russia turns to blackmail and 'financial incentives' to hire Germans to spy to make up for expelled diplomats, German agency says

So first they were Nazis, but now they were doing it to make a home for Israel?

Not a very consistent story.

Mikufan ,
@Mikufan@ani.social avatar

I mean the story is probably better for the Russians cause they are basically all antisemitic and nazis.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Why to spread it in Germany then? It's the first time I hear about that living in russia, and I'm a passionate collector of crazy conspiralogical theories, thanks to X-Files for that hobby. That exaggeration doesn't paint you in a better light too.

Tetsuo , an Europe in International Criminal Court (ICC) investigating alleged Russian cyberattacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure as possible war crimes, sources say

This seem increasingly pointless.

Sorry but trying to prosecute Russian hackers seems like a total waste of time. It's extremely hard to prove who hacked and Russia doesn't give a shit about the ICC. On top of that I would think there is much more dramatic case to prosecute than that.

cabron_offsets , an Europe in EU agrees on start of accession talks with Ukraine, Moldova

fuckingkangaroos ,

Fuck the Kremlin.

tal , an Europe in EU agrees on start of accession talks with Ukraine, Moldova

The agreement means that Hungary has dropped for now its opposition to Ukraine's graduation to EU membership.

I bet that there is gonna be one almighty argument about Hungarian-speakers in Ukraine down the line, though.

That was already covered in the previous stages: https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/12/8/7432248/

Barbarian , an Europe in EU agrees on start of accession talks with Ukraine, Moldova
@Barbarian@sh.itjust.works avatar

While most people are understandably pumped about the accession talks withs Ukraine, I think I can speak for the majority of Romanians when I say that this is an amazing step towards safety and security for Moldova. Our little brother deserves more than just being used as a political battleground by Russia.

Skua ,

Given the Transnistria situation I fully expect that had Russia been more successful in Ukraine, Moldova would have been next

Barbarian ,

Belarus revealed the plans at the beginning of the war to go into Moldova right after Ukraine, so yes. That was exactly the plan

cygnus ,

I'm still convinced Luka did that on purpose.

gravitas_deficiency ,

I’m convinced Putin was absolutely RIPSHIT with Luka over spilling the beans so completely.

cygnus ,

Absolutely, along with the many other "mistakes" that Belarus made that conveniently minimize its entanglement in this war.

woelkchen ,

Looking at how the EU dealt with Cyprus: Nothing will change. All of Cyprus is EU member, yet the EU happily accepts Turkish occupation in the northern half.

sparky ,
@sparky@lemmy.federate.cc avatar

I think this is a little different as (Greek) Cyprus joined after the island had already been divided, the conflict already frozen. Versus if an EU member is attacked anew, the collective defence article would be triggered. Still, it’s unfortunate that Cyprus still remains divided.

So exactly like Transnistria?

Dasus , an Europe in Kremlin's top security officials call on Russians to mobilise to inflict 'maximum harm' on West in response to sanctions
@Dasus@lemmy.world avatar

I hope you guys realise this "maximum harm" involves trolling.

Just ask yourself, what would a Russian troll look like, in real life.

For instance a person going by archcomrade on midwest.social is definitely either an actual troll or a brainwashed tankie, but going by his actions and comments, I think the former.

Posts only about how one shouldn't vote for Democrats in the US elections, never says anything bad about Putler or Trump, and keeps questioning the situation in the Ukraine, referring to "the West" in general, like a russian would.

And me just noting this led to insane mass reporting of my comments.

Little Putler's bitches hate losing.

Th4tGuyII , an Europe in Russia accused of plot to sway Moldova election
@Th4tGuyII@fedia.io avatar

Russia disseminating misinformation and far-right propaganda in order to destabilise a country so they can rig the political climate in their favour is basically their bread and butter at this point.

The fact that people all around the world keep falling for this blatantly obvious strategy is why they keep doing it - it's easier to have your enemy tear itself apart than it is to fight head on (as they're currently finding out with Ukraine)

MrMakabar , an Europe in Kremlin's top security officials call on Russians to mobilise to inflict 'maximum harm' on West in response to sanctions

Ziggurat , an Europe in Chinese fighter jets approached Dutch ship 'unsafely', Netherlands says

In the East sea of China

I don't want to sound like a tankie supporting winnie the poo, but I assume the Dutch would do the same if a Chinese frigate passes by the North Sea.

Dutch have the right to sail in international waters, and Chinese have the right to send a fighter to check them out

ForgotAboutDre ,

That analogy isn’t the same, at all. The Chinese aircraft didn’t just check them out, they deliberately flew dangerous as an intimidation tactic. The Dutch airforce doesn’t do this to anyone in the North Sea, even Russian bobmers. They just intercept, follow and tell them to leave.

The Dutch aircraft and boats weren’t acting suspiciously or hostile at all. They were carrying out UN sanctioned activities. China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council they could have vetoed these activities if they didn’t agree with them.

China allowed this operation, then they the behaved deliberately dangerously as an intimidation tactic. China wants to spread propaganda that this is okay and normal behaviour, it isn’t. They want to normalise their behaviour so they can bully their neighbours easier than before. Similar tactics have lead to fishermen dieing due to Chinas aggressive posturing.

maynarkh ,

In the East sea of China

It is the East China Sea not the East sea of China, however much the PRC wants it to be so. It includes territorial waters of South Korea, North Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and China, as well as a whole bunch of freely navigable international waters.

By this logic, the Indian Ocean would belong to India, and the Atlantic to Greece since they got to name it first.

lurch , an Europe in Russian court orders $56 mln Germany's Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg asset seizure

that's normal, if they didn't get their money out of a sanctioned hostile country, this i what happens. those banks knew that. some maybe couldn't get their money out, others maybe took the risk gambling they can continue their projects after/during the war. the latter deserve a slap on the wrist.

federalreverse ,

LBBW is owned by The Länd the state of Baden-Württemberg. I.e., some of the money seized is tax money. I think that's why it's newsworthy.
