Always I see this kind of "mixed" good/bad points comments. Wonder what it is and where does it come from...
Now to get on track: The topic is simple ANY computer infrastructure CONSUMES a LOT of POWER so if you want to be easy on the PLANET RESOURCES we need to you use it WISELY
Here are some suggestions:
stop people surveillange(aka gathering "advertising" data) and data hording from people devices like smartphones, routers, tv, smart anything like your fridge, ai assistant and other useless shit that only SPIES on you/us/me!
stopping running companies servers that do nothing and are useless or created for scopes that are not meaningful or that provide a real use;
stop creating and working for companies that do not promote/create technologies that support people and their long run sustainability...
"we didn't have a surveilance state of the scale that would come later"
For all of you that preach communism please make an imagination exercise just for a minute and imagine what kind of Authoritarianism you ask for when you will have a neverseen kind of Technological Communism, using current available surveillance technology (in place) like your smartphone for example (which I know a lot of people don't know what is its real use...)
Crowds contribuitions are what they know it will always work.
There will be enough ignorant and people lacking basic knowledge of the devices they use (or install in their homes) that will eventually give up everyones data/identity/etc.
So even if you do everything perfect and have the reaources in terms of concealing your privacy or (what remained of it) the first time you meet your girlfriend and have dinner along with her iPhone all your work vanishes in a microsecond.
This is most frustrating to people who know what i'm talking about!
What you can do?
Make people responsible, teach them!
