Not so soon. Only if Putin looses power and coalition of Pirate Party, Communist Party and maybe Russia of the future(if they will survive) gains it. And maybe 20-50 years to restore from Putin.

My own country (The Netherlands) has despite a very vocal anti-nuclear movement in the 20th century completely flipped now to where the only parties not in favor of Nuclear are the Greens, who at times quote the fear as a reason not to do it. As someone who treats climate change as truly existential for our country that lies below projected sea levels, it makes them look unreasonable and not taking the issue seriously.

I'm not from Netherlands, but very much belive this.

Most greens are very wierd. They claim to be against malnutrition and vitamin deficiency, but when it comes to solutions, they are against them(see golden rice). They are also mostly vegans, but when it comes to insulin, they would rather kill lots of pigs instead of scary-scary GMO yeast. Or when it comes to energy production, they rather would choose one with guaranteed dangers(coal has very nasty byproducts of burning) instead of potential.

I heard some greens in landlocked municipality(or whatever they call it in Britain) ruled against solar in favour of tidal. While same party in costal municipality ruled against of tidal.

I see biggest problem not in production, not in is it nuclear, but in is it buisness as usual. Capitalism knows no end to greed.

Why Florida?

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

If only question was about grassland vs grassland with solar. I live in country, where 46% of land is forests.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Indeed. Nuclear fuel is not pure enough to summon Eternal Night nuclear winter.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Also you can separate fuel waste from useful part. So even less waste.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

district heating is where it's at in 2024.

You don't have those in 2024? Commies built central heating in every city.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

You don't need to tie grids to transfer energy between them.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Lol, just dump energy into resistors. Or desync two generators.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Nuke energy! Actually, don't. We need it.

They also represent tactical strike sites in time of combat engagement. Big red X for a missile.

Practice shows that in land wars instead of big X it is just burden for both sides. I'm talking Putin-Ukraine war.

@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Coal, gas and oil could be zero instead of nuclear.

Mine bitcoins. Or ditch capitalism. Wait, last one is opposite of wasting. Feed capitalism.

Well, it took much effort for Homer to blow up NPP

First one is Ukraine

power supply remains and always has been a high priority target.

I'm not denying this. But mostly power distribution instead of power generation was targeted.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

As first step separate useful isotopes from used fuel. Most of used fuel are them. The rest won't be as big.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

on the basis of evergreening IP laws (a fair complaint, imo)

Hard to disagree. Nature isn't something to patent.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Good take. GNU project + Linux = GNU/Linux. Android project + Linux = Android/Linux.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Hold my OpenRC.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Systemd is also horrible project because it has sd-dbus - a dbus implementation, that requires systemd. And some projects(like Anbox) when migrating from abstraction layer to direct use of dbus accidentally choosen sd-dbus instead of dbus. And devs genuenly belive that sd-dbus is not systemd-specific.

Musl isn't entire userland

GNU project is not just compiler. Is isn't just Emacs either.

The next step is for this kind of release to become law

You mean legal deposit?

What you're describing here is called predatory publishing and is not the norm.

No, predatory publishing "is an exploitative academic publishing business model that involves charging publication fees to authors while only superficially checking articles for quality and legitimacy" without real peer review. For context reviewers aren't paid by high impact journals either.

eventually there'll be some breaking operating system or hardware change that will force the use of a virtual machine, compatibility software, or other types of emulation to keep playing.

I still can play Unreal from 1998 on modern Linux. Faust bless Torvalds and his "never break userspace".

It exists outside foss licenses in countries, where math can be patented.

uis ,

Temporarily free gives the idea that the code will stop being free at some point

Because it absolutely can and most of the times does.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

natural substances can be patented.

Oh, right. In USSA you can patent spider silk and apple tree. Complete absurd.

uis ,
@uis@lemm.ee avatar

Because companies weren't sharing modifications under network stack that was originally BSD. I think the only advantage *BSD stack has over Linux is kqueue, which notifies also about amount of avaliable bytes in socket, what epoll doesn't do.

NDAs are cancer

uis ,

Godot got a big influx of donations even though it's under a permissive license.

Many opensource game engines received donations when Unity tried to rape gamedevs.

Game logic in separate scripts isn't covered by the interpreter's license anyway.

That's why I said game engine can be LGPL. Even GPL, if game logic is loaded separately.
