Oh boy..I'll bring you up to speed.

When I was a kid we used to roll down hills in wheels. Those were the Goodyears.

What do you call 365 condoms? A fucking Goodyear.

It's almost as if the generation that taught us to "decide with your heart", "do what you love", "you can be everything you dream of", etc.etc. has suddenly decided to focus and rule the world by irrelevant talking points instead of staying true to their own beliefs and teaching.

I hope that whatever happens in the next decade at the dying breath of that generation will not set the precedent for following inhabitants of this planet. I, being gen-x, am doing as much as I can to enable people to younger than me to have better opportunities than I ever had. (Union stuff.)

The difference being that I acknowledge that younger people are more capable. My parents generation never understood that. They still cling to the belief that age equals wisdom. Maybe their parents taught them that.
There is some truth to it, but he cutting point is a lot lower than they believe. The peak of capability is probably closer to 25 than 80...

Edit. Anyway. The world depends on the American election. Mostly because the world needs USA to be successful in order to maintain a stable balance in world politics. The last Trump period was basically what fucked it up in the first place and I have no expectations of it being any better at a second term, on the contrary.

Please vote for Biden. Sure, he's old (please attend to primaries next time...) and Hillary was too, but Trump is still the most senile of them all.
I get it. It was funny to vote in some jackass to stir shit up, but that's not really what happened. All he achieved was to play golf and let radical idiots run the place down..

It's not even about the talking points. He spits in every direction, so it doesn't even matter. He will not fulfill any of the most modest expectations of any of the talking points whether or not you agree with them. He's going to play golf and let random asslickers run the place, again. That's not democracy.

The take from the title that Germany and Italy tops the statistic for Europe is still (partly) true. UK is still slightly worse than Italy.

By capita it's Luxembourg, Estonia and Iceland, but only due to low population. Their totals are pretty far down the lists.

bstix ,

Title says Europe, not EU.

bstix ,

I already read the article. I chose to comment on the title, because it is misleading.

A xylophone has wooden bars.

A marimba is a xylophone with resonator tubes.

A glockenspiel is a xylophone with metal bars..

A metal marimba is a marimba with metal bars (or a glockenspiel with resonator tubes).

A vibraphone is a metal marimba with a motor spinning a disc inside the resonators which can create a vibrato and it has a damper (sustain pedal).

Danish PM hit by man in Copenhagen street, her office says [edit] No political motive, see comments ( www.bbc.com ) Englisch

For a while perhaps, but not for long. Democracy will prevail.

It will be interesting to hear what motivated the attack.

bstix ,

None of those countries are good representations of where democracy is heading..

He does not recall the episode other than being positively thrilled to meet the prime minister. He was ashamed of his actions.

So, no political or personal motivation, just a local loony.

He will now be put in pre-trial detention for 12 days.

They're different because corruption (and in turkey: religion) was already present to such a degree that an actual democracy never happened.

"Don't turn off" is the worst kind of status message.

When it eventually hangs for various reasons, you actually do need to turn off your pc for it to complete or to let it roll back in an error state.

When "just hang in there" is still present on the third day you'll start wondering why you bought that piece of furniture and won't mind the consequences of turning it off.

bstix ,

Optometrists are behind this. When you turn mid fourties they'll politely but sternly ask you to consider spectacles with progressive correction. It will make the world just as curvy as they want you to see it.

Multiplication of x times 6:

x * 6 = 1/2 x * 10 + x

This can sometimes be a shortcut for numbers that are easier to divide by 2 than to multiply by 6.

Take half as tens and add the number.

6 * 6 = 30 + 6 = 36

8 * 6 = 40 + 8 = 48

150 * 6 = 750 + 150 = 900

320 = 1600 + 320 = 1920

Etc.

Sleep well.

bstix ,

Exactly. Multiples of 5 are easy enough in my opinion, but the principle can be used for all kinds of stuff when trying to calculate quickly.

For instance 9x =10x-x is usually faster than 9x (at least for my brain).

I once talked to an old guy who called it "little math", because it fits in your head instead of having to use paper and pencil at the desk. It must have been taught differently before I was born. I work with numbers, and I've often encountered these old geezers who can eyeball a number close enough to make a decision before I can boot my pc and put everything through Excel.
