I do a lot of photography and I share it on my deviant art page.

It’s SFW, don’t worry.

Honestly kicking myself for not having this setup on my last Linux install

Good news is it's setup on my current install

Sometimes I learn my lessons the hard way... Multiple times.

I only had a couple programs holding me: Fusion 360 and Windows 3D Builder.

Then I found out there's a functional snap pack for Fusion 360. Now I just have to come up with a solution for Windows 3D Builder.

And the reason I use Windows 3D Builder is for 1 feature: it's model repair function is far and away the best I've used for broken 3D models.

Straight up it reminds of of being back on Windows 7 and it's so goddamn cozy to be back there

With the new Apple silicon going on it's killing Hackintosh by literally having non-Apple silicon going to be no longer supported.

So basically the EoL date for a Hackintosh is when Apple goes EoL on non-Apple silicon with their OS.

The fuk? Please help me complete this insane captcha ( lemmy.world )

Fridge fridge hamburger truck truck... ??? What's the blue thing? I thought hamburger would be the answer, but it isn't? I just get the same captcha with the hamburger in a different place. WTAF is happening? And what's the blue thing? I refresh and it's the same icon in a different place. I AM HUMAN!

I AM HUMAN!

I hate to be the one to break it to you friend but neither of us are.

I would have picked the burger as well.

Yeah it's lip service, but it's lip service they pay due to feeling like we are a marketable demographic.

They feel that advertising to us as a group and making the haters mad is more profitable than the alternative.

As someone who also struggled with alcoholism, I wish I quit way sooner than I did.

This September will mark 6 years sober.

It's the longest I've ever been sober in my entire life.

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I've lost quite a few people to various addictions over the years. Only 1 to drinking.

Storytime if you're curious

That one still haunts me oftentimes (though not as much as it used to) about a decade later. They were my long-term boyfriend at the time and after our mutual long-term girlfriend passed away suddenly we both fell off the wagon hard.

I made it out the other side of the path of self destruction, they didn't.

And when they passed I fell even harder into alcoholism.

My wakeup call was when my doctor asked how many drinks I had per week and when I told him he had me go through the math right there for how I calculated it. It was over 300.

I was there because of some health issues that turned out to be liver problems.

I got sober a few months later.

Sobriety can be a real bitch to maintain at first but it gets easier the longer you're sober. Especially if you utilize the new found clarity of mind to address the causes of your addiction.

I'll never drink again.

Thank you

It wasn't easy but I'd recommend it to everyone for sure

The amount of times I see, "Have you tried just googling it?" As a response to a tech issue is too damn high.

The best part is seeing those answers in threads that I got to by googling my question.

"Thank you for your helpful advise of 'just Google it' I've now found dozens of threads with that exact same answer to the question I have."

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

So much this

It's infuriating trying to find solutions to issues with Autodesk.

But you did forget a classic one: "Hello I'm X from Autodesk support, you should open a support ticket so we can discuss this issue in a more one on one manner." And then the thread is closed without a solution.

So many people commuting to jobs that could easily be done from home nowadays

I work in the freight industry in a position I can't do from home but when the whole work from home thing was in full swing I didn't get stuck in traffic except a few times when the local drawbridge went up

Seeing kids surpass me in skills I taught them how to do is (for me) a fantastic feeling

I want to see them be better than I was at whatever I taught them

Spitting facts right there

Hell my favorite places to go hiking don't even have cell service

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It truly is bliss being disconnected from everything every now and then

No Internet, no phone calls, no texts, nothing.

Being truly disconnected from the world at large.

If people need me, they can wait until I get back from my hike or my vacation as I'm truly unreachable unless someone hikes out there too.

If it's compromised you can't change it for one

Also you can't be legally forced without a warrant to give a password but biometric data you can be legally forced without a warrant to give up

NGL "Hermit in a log cabin" sounds really nice

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I'm an avid hiker personally

Especially in the local wilderness where I don't get cell reception

It's nice knowing that literally no matter how important somebody thinks their problem is they can't reach me no matter how hard they try AND no matter how much my reflex is to check my email for "important" things that need taken care of I literally can't check it.

Gormadt OP ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Okay I think I'm following so far

And the whole "show stuff on screen" thing

I'm guessing it's kinda like: you've got a couple people sitting there wanting to play with Legos and only so much room to play. They don't have direct access to the play area because of security reasons so they have to ask someone to place the Legos for them. Wayland, X11, and Xorg are all different people they can talk to to place the Legos in a way where no one is fighting for space.

So basically it's a new way for programs to negotiate who has what part of the screen?

I'm guessing Wayland is either more feature rich or lighter on resources and that's why it's a big deal?

Gormadt OP ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The TLDR was really helpful NGL

So it's software that handles software wanting to display things on the screen. Because having each piece of software do it itself would be not only chaos but a massive security concern. And it's a big deal because it fixes (by replacing) the old software with something that's easier to work with than the old ways of doing things (due to all new code that's not spaghetti that's hacked together over decades).

Am I close?

Gormadt OP ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That's really interesting and thank you

I think I'm beginning to get it now, and Wayland does sound better than X11 at least

What kinds of features does it gain and lose?

Based on a true story ( lemmy.world ) Englisch

My OS is on a 512gb M.2 drive, but the main storage on my laptop was a 1TB HDD, it started making noise about 2 weeks ago so I backed everything up onto a 1TB SanDisk USB SSD. This afternoon it got very clicky when I booted it up after work and icons for a few games I had stored on it, like KSP and YUZU, disappeared from the...

Some of your data may have still been borked BTW

It's best practice to maintain a backup

I'm better at it than I used to be but unfortunately I lost a lot of data to learn that lesson

My drive started ticking a long time ago, I thought I successfully saved my data but when I dug through the drive a bunch of directories were full of broken files

I swear after coming to Lemmy I've blocked more people than ever before on almost any other social media site I've been on

The amount of tankies in this collection of sites is so damn high it blows my mind. At least the neo-nazis mostly keep contained to their own instances (though I've blocked my fair share of them too)

In my neck of the PNW they may cost $25 but they come with a side

And that shit's fire, worth every damn penny

My roommate and I usually go out once a month to snag some food from those places and try to hit up different ones each time

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Likewise

Go for a walk, go on a hike, go fishing, get a BBQ going: don't just drink your day away.

I'm an avid hiker now but I'll never forget my doctor telling me at 24 that if I didn't stop drinking I was going to be dead before 30.

Just forgetting to tell family I was going to be later than I expected

My 3 favorite experiences with language as an American:

(1) My Jamaican coworker who I couldn't understand for the life of me and my Ukrainian coworker who my Jamaican couldn't understand at all, the Ukrainian coworker understood the Jamaican coworker just fine though and I understood my Ukrainian coworker just fine. Basically it turns into a fun game of telephone whenever we need to talk.

(2) My former coworker from Haiti who no one but the hiring manager and I could understand, the best part about this is that I didn't know he had an accent. I just didn't hear it somehow. He was a great guy, he went back home a few years ago when his mother passed. Got stuck due to the pandemic and never came back to the company. I hope he's doing well.

(3) My former coworker from Guatemala insisting English wasn't my first language as to him it sounded like English was my second language at best. I've been working on it since then. I still suck at it.
