Disappointing from Politico, I thought they had a good read on politics but it seems they're incompetent enough to not be able to understand the french political landscape: the far left is mostly composed of NPA and LO who are trying to gain power through revolution, not the classic socdem parties playing by the elections rules

Edit : wow thanks for the context, friends, didn't know they had changed owners

Yeah french newspapers are annoying because of that

I'm not sure about the semantics but I think both can be used interchangeably ?

"Pro russian far left" is the rhetoric used by the Macron government, the parties of this union have consistently condemned the Russian invasion, the program they revealed mentions :

Defend Ukraine and peace on the European continent to thwart Vladimir Putin’s war of aggression, and for him to answer for his crimes before international justice: to defend unwaveringly the sovereignty and freedom of the Ukrainian people as well as the integrity of its borders, by delivering necessary weapons, cancelling its foreign debt, seizing the assets of the oligarchs who contribute to the Russian war effort within the framework permitted by international law, sending peacekeepers to secure nuclear power plants, in an international context of tensions and war on the European continent and working towards the return of peace

Far left in France has a specific definition that seems to be blatantly disregarded by french politicians : those who want to take power via a revolution are far left, this union is playing the game of gaining power through the popular vote

It's not your job to go look for those statements either, they can search for more information themselves and report back with their findings

Why be so antagonizing, this is a discussion

I've only been to Iceland so I can't judge the others, Norway really fascinates me with its nature, and political history. The Baltics are on the map, I was supposed to go to Latvia in 2021 for a concert, but it's been postponed 5 times, but I hope I get to visit all three of them as well.

Excellent summary of the political situation in France, thanks for sharing

Macron took pride in this ability to see beyond ideological apriorism and see all sides of the issues. He was neither left nor right – he was both. Or neither.

The french leftists are usually mocking Macron's catch phrase "neither left nor right", we say he's neither left, nor left

French typing rules

inlandempire ,
@inlandempire@jlai.lu avatar

Yeah haha it's really weird and I tend to switch between the "normal" way and the "french" way without noticing. Basically in french the rule is that if your symbol is "tall" ( ! , ? , brackets, semicolon, I think dashes as well...) it needs to be preceded by a space

Yeah it's Oath, I bought it, I don't even know if I'll be able to play it with friends, but I need all the Kyle Ferrin I can humanly collect in my life. His cute critters and goofy faces and lovely sketch lines and textures are just so adorable

Edit : btw I stole the pic from the first image search result I could find that showcased nice looking games, it's apparently from this article : https://gamerant.com/most-beautiful-board-game-boards/

Oh yeah Jakub Różalski's style is sooo good, there's also a video game that pretty much has the same setting as Scythe on Steam, called Iron Harvest, I wouldn't be surprised if he also worked on it!

I also played Mysterium which was made by the same people behind Dixit (I just checked and not at all, it's just the same mechanics with beautiful illustrations open to interpretation, my bad), and the game is a lot more engaging to me, but Dixit is one of the classics for french players!

France bans Israel companies from annual Eurosatory arms fair ( www.middleeastmonitor.com )

France has banned Israeli companies from participating in this year’s annual Eurosatory arms and defence industry exhibition in Villepinte near Paris next month, the event’s organisers and the French Defence Ministry said on Friday, Reuters reports....

Classic hypocrisy of France (or western democracies in general?)

inlandempire ,
@inlandempire@jlai.lu avatar

Being french, I will call my government hypocrite no matter what, any chance I have 😛

inlandempire ,
@inlandempire@jlai.lu avatar

The rise of fascism in France does come from the actual far right, it's been a gradual change of policies and the implementation of authoritarian measures by the very government who keeps saying "vote for us to save democracy from the fascists". Macrons has deliberately betrayed the left wing voters, repressed protesters, and kept moving further and further right... [1] [2] [3] [4]

So yeah I don't know what advice to give, be watchful and attentive of actions, not promises 🤷

The upcoming European elections are seeing a massive win for the French far right, people are blinded by their fake anti Macron stance (when both of them are voting for each others policies at the parliament), it's quite depressing

French police on Friday shot dead a man armed with a knife and a crowbar who tried to set fire to a synagogue in the northern city of Rouen, adding to concerns over anti-Semitic violence in the country.

Maybe the person you responded to only wished to not learn about the details of shenanigans from shitty people, because news are already depressing enough, and you just hit them with even more negativity.

Everyone can live a happy life without ever learning who Tate is, it's not "sticking one's head in the sand" ; don't be so judgemental.
