A tulpa in search of wings.

Trying to scientifically prove that GPUs have other uses than (badly) simulating neural tissue by day, hunting scattered dreams by night.

Recently took a liking to swimming. Never learned proper technique but it still beats the crowds and injury-proneness of gym -- and I get to live the Dream Pools vibe every time.

It's really silly that OBS doesn't support multichannel audio input (splitting it into multiple audio sources)... it makes the OBS mixer useless for mixing audio in sync! ;;

If you mix all audio outside of OBS (like I do) it works well, but then you can't record split tracks...

Most people will tell you to use something like VoiceMeeter (on Windows) to send audio via separate virtual devices to OBS... but that doesn't keep them in sync since OBS considers them completely independent so there is a random delay offset between them (I tested it).

@lina There's a pipewire audio input plugin for Linux that can sort of do that! It doesn't seem to support anything but stereo streams though...

@lina Aah, yes. I wonder if OBS itself supports multichannel streams? Would be nice if it was just a matter of improving the plugin to accept arbitrary channel configurations.

One thing that is cool about LLM‘s right now is how there’s actual competition, the likes of which I haven’t seen in other fields lately.

I’ve been enjoying GPT-4o, now Claude Sonnet 3.5 is out and I can just switch to it with one line of config. Until next time.

@fasterthanlime "a prompt that is unambiguous and contains all the relevant context" we used to just feed those to compilers and interpreters and call them "code"

scherzog ,
@scherzog@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@fasterthanlime I mean, C can hardly be called unambiguous since no two compilers can seem to agree on how it is supposed to be interpreted. Amusingly enough, that exact problem is even worse with LLMs since they have to deal with natural languages being even more ambiguous by, well, nature. And if your solution is to come up with a subset of English that is not ambiguous... congratulations, you have basically invented Ada

Cool I get to replace an old codebase with a single ffmpeg invocation.

ffmpeg 7 parallelized all the things, so... you can encode your whole bitrate ladder in one go efficiently now.

@fasterthanlime Another thing that is good at generating complex ffmpeg filters is the graphical ffmpeg explorer: https://ffmpeg.lav.io/

It does lack the capability to tell people to eat glue though so that's one point to the LLM.

@kde TIL about the "for" page, that's a great starting point to point new people at!

@kde Yep, was the first thing I looked for after seeing the creatives page: "surely there must be a similar page for other types too"

@fasterthanlime @onelson I've been using daily Linux builds as my daily driver for a few months now. There are a number of rough edges but overall it is indeed quickly approaching a decently usable state.
