@TechConnectify I wonder if they got some 'certification' thing going, along the lines of 'you use light bulbs in your system, so you can use these without having to do new certification'.
(Either that or a desperate use for the growingly redundant vacuum tube line)

@TechConnectify I love the detail on this series, and the historical bits.
I'm kind of curious how much overlap there was between the telephone design engineers and the pinball engineers; things like uniselectors and such all seem similar tech.

@zxguesser Oh that's excellent; the note about marking stuff only allowed to be opened in the field is interesting; I read in a book ages ago (I think RV Jones The most Secret war?) that the Germans tended to build stuff for untrained users, because having banned Amateur radio earlier, they had less tech people in the field.

@TechConnectify My microwave also has long cycles on it's reduced power modes, and I wish it was using shorter cycles; in a microwave the effect is to switch between boiling over, and not heating and back to boiling over, rathr than a nice mid simmer.
