Thanks. TIL best to ask Linux questions in meme groups for fast and free support. Do not anywhere else.

lemmyreader OP ,

If climate change is as bad as predicted, it will affect everyone, and when it does,
it will be too late to reverse it, we can only make it less bad.

It is more sad I'd say. From what I read in mainstream media and social media it is already happening, we're being fried to death. Lots of animals and parts of the Eco-system died already, yet the fossil fuel addiction continues.

I guess lots of people prefer to look away and do short term planning only.

Ah yes, Bryan Lunduke was a very well known name in Linux circles years ago. His Linux e-books still can be had.

🙂 👍

lemmyreader OP ,

However, please please please support and push, protest, fight for societal
changes for us collectively to drive less, eat less meat, and corporate
carbon taxation.

You may be preaching to the choir. This year in Europe more than 50 percent of the newly bought cars were SUVs. To me that feels that most people do not care, they just want to enjoy themselves as much as possible before total collapse. Protest ? Three states in the USA recently banned protesting. In Europe with far right winning about everywhere will likely go the same direction. It is obvious in the news headlines. Fascism is on the rise and the masses do not seem to care about a burning planet and killing of everything but themselves.

lemmyreader OP ,

Net Zero carbon emissions (or any other pollutant) shouldn’t be the goal.
It should be the minimum fucking standard.

Exactly. The part about recycling that you wrote makes me realize that fossil fuel industry has been more than an addiction for most of the masses with politicians (Think about Gerhard Schroeder in Germany with his Russian oil connections) and companies making the decisions in favor of destroying the planet. And those fossil fuel companies knew about the effects for decades. Just like tobacco companies were allowed to go for profits. Making profits and caring about shareholders has been worshiped for way too long.

lemmyreader OP ,

How about: regulate the 10 largest companies and we can save the Earth?

Good plan. Don't see that happen. Yesterday I briefly imagined that a small group of billionaires left the burning planet Earth in their spaceship. And angry politicians were surprisingly not allowed in that ship. And the masses were sad for the politicians while the melting earth was transforming into dust and ashes.

Glad it is not 99% :-)

“Fact: 95% of Linux users switched back to Windows95 right before all their problems are about to be fixed” A.D. 1999

  • Seriously though a few years ago Microsoft launched their own Linux distributions. You'd think it would be smooth sailing now, no ?
lemmyreader ,

😄 About time to have an exclusive SystemD O.S. so that these new users understand not to fiddle with PID Eins /s /j

lemmyreader ,

You know that Linux has protection against rm -rf / since a few years ?

Guess it's a sign that Linus got milder on the way, growing old :-)
And the terrible BOFH joke of this grew old and boring as well. Gotta take care about new Linux users.

lemmyreader ,

😄

lemmyreader ,

🙂 👍

lemmyreader ,

I think I would have preferred sudo apt-get remove --purge systemd
Yeah, some old habits never die.

lemmyreader ,

This sounds over the top to me.

I don’t care if I have support from others or not. I’m already used to never
having my voice heard or being rejected, it makes no difference.

I see no problems with this part of the previous comment.
It can be fine to live like a hermit or a fool on the hill. The Buddha gave up everything and didn't care what others said.

lemmyreader ,

And what would you do on that other planet without Internet and stuck with Microsoft Windows and no way to activate your OEM license ? At least Linux has nice manual pages to read in the main time off-line 😄

lemmyreader ,

git clone archwiki Does that actually work ? 🤔

lemmyreader ,

Nice. Thank you!

lemmyreader ,

Hey, this Linux meme fun thread ended up in a Linux support help-desk questions thread. How untypical :-)

lemmyreader ,

Let me leave this here :

The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty -- it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality.
