Bad idea: since there's a mechanical limit to how much you can cool down a CPU, design a motherboard with a rotary barrel.

While one CPU is used, the other five can be cooling down!

@foone that's kinda sorta how multicore works, but with an electronic switch instead of a barrel, so not as strange as it seems

I could go down the long rabbithole of figuring out how to call g*mp's image manipulation tools from a commandline or API, or getting imagemagick installed on this PC and figuring out how to port it over there...

or I could be silly and take advantage of the fact that I'm applying gamma ramps to an 8-bit greyscale image. What's the difference between the "before" and "after" images? a different palette.

I often think about "computer bad" and similar defeatism — so much is fixable via training, customization + just not buying garbage (which requires money, money solves a lot of problems!).

I'll never understand folks complaining about something they have the means to fix.

@fasterthanlime because it takes away from doing the actual goal
configuration and automation is great, but often it leads to a yak shaving journey
