BSD is for a rock solid server stack. Desktop? Why??

aniki ,

I would consider it for like a kiosk but not a desktop I'd want to use and enjoy. Hardware support is a big one, speed of updates, lack of support release for certain software packages, ect. For example, I use PyCharm for both work and play, and there's no native client in BSD. I haven't even looked at the state of Docker.

Currently, Docker needs VirtualBox installed and configured.

No, gracias.

This just makes me want to get into nix even more. Put configs in a git repo and build vms until you have the config you want, then update only when you're doing something new. I use Arch btw. For desktop. Otherwise it's a mix fedora, red hat, debian, Ubuntu, cent, bsd, armbien, openWRT, and a few others.

proprietary.... kitchen planners? wtf? wtf even is a kitchen planner?

That seems like the easiest thing to replace with something open source.

And how many windows updates reset the setting??

aniki ,

Oh interesting! I was thinking of planning in the kitchen not planning for a kitchen build. That makes WAY more sense!

aniki ,

Hardening a server is not the same thing as running vulnerable operating systems.

aniki ,

That's because of the function of a server running those services. A desktop isn't running services.
