I can declaratively manage my system. That'd probably the Thing you know about it.
but it also uses the Nix Package manager which allows you to install multiple versions of the same program. On Ubuntu, if I update bash from v4.6 to 5.0, it will replace /bin/bash and if any breaking changes were made, any program that has bash 4.6 as dependency won't work anymore.
On NixOS binaries are stored in /nix/store with a hash. So bash 4.6 is in /nix/store/hwnfuvshajdbgjajebskhak-bash-4.6 and 5.0 gets installed into /nix/store/638jsvusbhsuksvj76hwlsbj-bash-5.0
This allows us to have programs that depend on a old version of a software installed simultaneously with programs that depend on a new version of it.
It's BTW funny how no one here criticizes the behavior I mentioned but instead attacks my conclusion I draw from that behavior. Which only further solidifies my decision.
You are not entitled to my work. If you want access to them, stop being an insufferable entitled brat.
It's exactly this behavior why I won't open-source them. Are you too dense to see how toxic parts of this community are?
you tell me it's not your fault you made those wrong assumptions but actually mine
that's some prime gaslighting my dude
since you apparently aren't arguing in good faith, i will not further entertain to you.
a goodbye-word for you:
you can't act like you know something about me (that i'm anti-foss) and then when you're called out on your BS take the Position "how am i supposed to know anything about you?!"
People who do work for themselves and share it with other people don't do work for other people, big shocker.
Like, seriously, if your Neighbor makes a cake and shares it with you, do you also ask them "that's nice but can you next time make [cake i like]?"? no! you say thank you and you're grateful someone is sharing their hard work with you!
that is unironically amazing and the Foss Community needs people like you. And if i ever use one of your Projects, I'll be sure to donate to you.
But: That's you and not me. I don't have the Time or Energy to maintain Projects for other people. My Projects are usually for my exact Usecase and that only. I don't have the Energy or will dealing with people saying "doesn't work for me" or "please update" or "please add [Feature that i don't need]"
so not wanting to slave away for free for people that feel entitled to my work makes me an incendiary troll? then I'll proudly wear that name as a badge.
