Italy's banking giant UniCredit challenges terms set by European regulator to cut its exposure to Russia, seeks ruling from the EU's General Court ( www.reuters.com ) Englisch

UniCredit said on Monday it was challenging the terms set by the European Central Bank (ECB) for the Italian bank to cut its exposure to Russia, and seeking a ruling from the European Union's General Court, as well as a freezing of the request in the meantime....

I hope they get spitroasted by the EU and Russia.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Do you truly not see a difference between people arguing on the internet and an ideology that led to the wholesale slaughter of over 6 million civilians in extermination camps and another 9 to 14 million in Europe?

Calling someone a Nazi like that just dilutes the meaning of the term and shows how little you actually understand of the world.

If anything everyone is now undeniably aware that any agreement with Russia is not even worth the paper it is written on.

Largest Croatian hospital under cyberattack by pro-Russian hacker group ( www.helpnetsecurity.com ) Englisch

The University Hospital Centre Zagreb (KBC Zagreb) is under cyberattack that started on Wednesday (June 26) night. All services are working, but the processing of patients is slower than usual, Milivoj Novak, Assistant Director at the hospital, has said....

Yeah, it also allows to test different things as different cities have different challenges. And local solutions also make sense. Like heating homes using the waste heat from other locations, mini grids etc.

Nah she is just shilling for the high end car builders of Italy. I am fine with gas engines in cars. As long as the fuels are taxed at 5 euro per liter from 2030 adding a euro per liter per year. This goes for bio fuels too.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Biofuels use valuable land that can be used to feed people or be nature. No need for it to be used to allow some rich asshole to drive a car.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

That's maybe fine for small scale usage. And even then I don't know if this is actually good. In any case your USA case won't scale well. I also don't know if it is even legal in my country.

I more meant large scale biofuel cultivation instead of food and nature. Cause then these companies will start eating up agro subsidies etc while keeping polluting cars on the road.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yes you are right.. maybe delay the whole ordeal by a decade or decade and a half. Then the electric second hand will be common.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I'd love to see additional tax increases after a specific year. If you want to drive an Oldtimer or a gas powered supercar.. it should be expensive to operate.

But indeed only once full electrification has reached normal families.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe they should violently protest and burn the banlieu's again. That should stop it.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

This kind of stuff is trivial for the IRS to find if they wanted to. Just crosscheck revenue, purchases and wage costs and such. And when stuff is off balance, audit. Here in the Netherlands they even look at how much mayonaise and water a restaurant uses to estimate revenue. Same as number of cans of hair product for hairdressers.

And if a company is found at fault they force them to switch to predominantly taking card payments instead of cash to make it even more transparent for the IRS.

Apparently they also estimate people's net worth by looking at registered cars, real estate and the length of you yaght.. and this is pretty accurate to determine if an audit is in order.

Finland’s free contraception initiative reduces teen abortions by 66% ( www.optimistdaily.com ) Englisch

Finland’s multifaceted approach to preventing teenage abortions has proven highly effective, with a 66 percent reduction reported between 2000 and 2023. This large drop, owing to free contraception and obligatory sex education, serves as a model for public health programs....

Exactly.. all those sluts should just keep their legs closed and practice abstinence, deny one of their primal urges and get back in the kitchen and bake me a pie.

I'm happy some countries are still showing that stuff like this is possible. Good for everyone.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I'd call it Burqa logic. As there you see the exact lo.gic at work.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

And normal housing is not a hotel. If you have people that rent a room or something and you are there you keep an eye out and make sure they behave. Can you imagine your neighboring house or appartment becoming a party flat with people that don't care how loud they are.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I don't know who you think you replied to.. but I agree. More is needed.

This is a good start. Putting hundreds if not thousands of Appartments back on the market for permanent living is good. And at the same time you increase livability in neighborhoods.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Air BnB started for people with a spare room. Cause then it's just small scale and supervised. Or to rent out when you yourself are on vacation.. like home swapping. And I think both are fine if they are the exception.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yup, and hydrogen for the greenification of steel production. Pump water into elevated reservoirs as energy storage.

Plenty of good things to do with excess power.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, just like it was impossible to cut off Russian oil and gas.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Interesting, now his replacement has been finalized he can take off the gloves and say some stronger stuff before Rutte takes over.

Just hope Rutte does a proper job once he takes over.

TikTok should be banned in Europe. The fact that the app we get served is not allowed in china, and that in china it serves educative content to kids means it is just a weapon of war for the CCP.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Turkiye is the proper name btw. They formally requested people start using their name correctly.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Apparently the spelling is closer to the pronunciation and is older than the English spelling.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_Turkey

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

In the wiki article. The request was formally don'e by the government of Turkiye to the UN. It was accepted as a formal name change. And yes, Erdogan is their president. Im also not a fan of him, but calling a country by their name should not be contentious, or should it?

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Massive difference in perception, or actual effects for the voters. Cause they seem to be mainly situated in east Germany.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

For east Germany it also does not help that within an hours drive you cross an arbitrary meaningless line but on the other side of it people will work for cents on the euro. So companies will not go where the higher wages are to be paid.

This also does not help the us and them rhetoric.

And yes, the left seems so hyperfocussed on migrants and citizens with a migrant background in their rhetoric that they alienate a lot of people that feel like they are not represented by that left. And this translates to.. so they are spending all the money on the brown people and nothing is left for us... While in reality everyone is fucked... Except a very small group.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I'll bet. I'm not German but I saw the maps of where the afd vote was geographically. And have some knowledge of German history so I asked the question in Ernest.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

One of the lessons we are learning the hardest way possible is that moving all your industrial base over seas to a country with autocratic tendencies makes you dependent on them, while also removing skill and knoedge from your country resulting in long term risk and damage.

Capital moves easily, supply lines do not. The 0 covid policy showed that this dependence on only china is dangerous for companies. And since companies are generally risk averse they will start spreading across more countries.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

And now the right will go and ignore the migration issue (as solving it will cost them votes) and go ahead and make other shit right wing policy.

Farmers that do not grow crops for direct human consumption should not get subsidies.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Afd result is mind boggling

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

I'm not allowed to vote twice.

But get to the polls people and vote. Hope we can keep Europe from completely turning into a right-wing obstructionist shit show.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

☝️ this post is brought to you by the Russian Ministry of Defence.

The abhorrent and disgusting amount of misinformation in this post is just mind boggling.

I just hope that our lawmakers in the EU finally act and curb the dependence on countries governed by totalitarian regimes.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Follow the TRUTH(tm) as brought to you by the Ministry of truth.

If anything, China and Russia have shown themselves untrustworthy, belligerent and dangerous to their neighbors and above all geopolitical bullies.

Maybe you should venture a little outside of the ecosystem of news sites that are all smelling each other's farts.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

What is? Clashes (all the way up to sinking fisher vessels) within international water that china considers theirs? (The whole 9 dash line hupla).

Or the annexation of south Ossetia, Crimea and the vassalization of Belarus by russia?

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah.. no. Things like the nine dash line and invasions of neighboring countries can relatively easily be objectified.. either by seeing it happen or listening to the countries actually doing it yelling at the top of their lungs that they have the right to do that stuff.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

LoL.. everyone saw this coming. And if the deal happens and the Chinese get to price gouge the Russians, they will build massive storage and suck Russia dry for pennies on the dollar.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Not enough profitability. This whole private equity infinite growth needs to slow the fuck down.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Just put less rows of seats and have them properly recline. Some people will want small rooms, but cheap sleeper seats help as well. People sleep in planes too.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah good point. In the transsiberia express they have 1st class, 2 person compartments with beds and also 4 person compartments with bunkbeds as 2nd class and 3rd class is an open wagon filled with 3 story bunkbeds.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Fixing these kinds of issues are massive undertakings. First you need to check the whole path and start in specific places, because if you start in the wrong place you move the issue to another point where the potential for disaster might be even bigger.

For example, the water level before a dyked area is raised allowing water to pass over a natural barrier and flood an entire valley. Or you move the issue downstream and flood larger areas. When dealing with nature, you are dealing with massive forces.

The Dutch Duke system is a product of hundreds of years of development, and in some cases costly trial and error.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Extreme drought makes the issue worse, when the surface is too dry it does not absorb water quickly, meaning you get more runoff. If feels counter intuitive, but it's true.

You might have noticed this when watering a completely dried out plant. The water stays on the surface of the soil longer.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Well, Stalin died of old age in his dacha at 73... Putin is 71...

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Oh great. And in a decade they will tell us that the company that made it already knew for 3 decades how horrible it was.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

The production of Zyklon B was not enough of a crime against humanity huh.

But the company will undoubtedly spin off another company and divest from the chemical in question.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

Dutch tv had a whole documentary on how pfas contaminated soil is mixed with other soils and then dumped in artificial ponds or lakes we created winning sand.

Badeendje ,
@Badeendje@lemmy.world avatar

And their assets will be seized by the government.

But it important to keep repeating .. companies are not moral. They are profit driven, cost externalizing entities. If you want or need them to do something for the public good.. you legislate them.

One thing Russia understands better than the western world. It might be a dog and pony show, but they don't ask nicely. When dealing with companies, that is the only way.
