Socialist, urbanist, atheist, lots of ist and a vegetarian too.
I'm an old cynic who's not willing to drink any coolaid. My heroes are MLK Jr and Tommy Douglas, but cancel culture is real and horrible too. Maybe it's my autism but I just can't tolerate any group that villifies dissent.
I'm also a programmer of remarkable speed if not talent, and know enough science to actually understand the research (and get in trouble for doing so).

Listening to UrbanistAgenda when you talk about a scary future of suburban poverty, as cities get desirable and 'gentrify'. Living in Scarborough (Ontario) I think it's not exactly distant future. TTC is the lifeline my neighbours cling to, and the majority live in highrises, many of which have no nearby amenities.

Got a video coming about that suburban/urban rich/poor flip?

CityBeautiful recently released a great video about how to fix stroads.

It's accurate, and lines up exactly with the advocacy that my wife and I were doing 10 years ago, right down to using StreetMix to redesign streets.

It's also extremely depressing and makes me glad that I don't live in North America anymore.

People who've never actually fought to change their city are completely blind to the political and physical reality. People resist change even when it's obviously good.

Related: After two years of fighting, the Scarborough extension of that Bloor bike lane is finally happening. Public Consultations (round one of two) tonight!

Hundreds of people coming to make sure it doesn't get out off again.

And this is in a city that officially supports a bike network and vision zero.

I just learned about that advocacy after listening to your business owners and bike lanes podcast. That's why I thought you'd enjoy hearing about the huge progress. :) It'll be almost clear across the city, hopefully next year. The BIA still fighting it, of course.
Cycle Toronto has been a huge ally for us, also of course.

It's annoying when people complain that my content is "too eurocentric". And after making my Shinjuku station video a lot of people are saying that "finally" there's some "non-eurocentric" content. 🙄

I make videos about MY experiences in cities. I don't summarize a bunch of facts you could easily find on Wikipedia, Twitter, or news articles, and then lazily recite it over stock footage.

I actually GO to places, experience them in person, and over 90% of my videos is footage I filmed myself.

I went with "Finally some inclusion of the other part of the world doing it right."
The comparison of Asian vs European urbanism is really interesting and valuable for the rest of us. It almost seems like two models.
You hit on what I see as the big differences. Cool video.
