Hah. Today I got two emails, in this sequence:

  1. Roku saying they looked at my resume for a test automation engineer and turned me down
  2. LinkedIn telling me that Roku is recruiting for test automation engineers in my area!

I'm disappointed that progress in dial up modems seems to have stopped around 2002. You can buy a PCIe modem and it'll be 56k just like the PCI modem you bought back in 2000!

We should invest more into improving modems that work over plain old telephone lines.

But the relentless push to convince people they need to drive a higher profit margin SUV has created a market where the expectation that your vehicle should cost more than your annual housing is right up there with deBeers' "three month's salary" engagement rings.

Seriously, the 'moisture' sensor in these is basically a poorly made capacitor with a temperature coefficient that is as predictable as Powerball.

You should put the whole thing on a couple of strain gauges and use the loss of water mass to end the cycle.

124 lbs (56 kg)

Bosch's most expensive dishwasher: 123 lbs

So, more than 5X heavier than a consumer dishwasher.

Terrible idea: an author writes a book, but instead of releasing it, they train an LLM on it, and release the model.

So readers can ask the LLM to generate text based on it, but can never know the original text.

What is the VOLUME of helium lost?

Properly photographing a 3.5" floppy disk for archival is annoyingly complicated. The label has THREE sides!

I've already built an automated system to take a picture of the front of a disk, but really I need to take THREE photos if I want to get the whole thing.

That means either three cameras or I need to rotate the disk 90° and then 180°, which is going to really stress the limits of my mechanical engineering skills.
