Silly question:
You know how there are HDMI splitters/adapters that strip DRM?

Are there any that do the opposite? Add DRM?

Like, if I want my computer to think my VCR's HDMI signal is Highly Copyrighted Stuff, can I do that?

@foone I have no idea if it works, But i know the first version of the Xbox One had a HDMI input. I am not sire if it ads hdcp too the signal or not tho.

@foone what a sad world we live in when ordinary people have to rely on DRM to protect them selves from corporations... but it makes total sense.

@foone Not helpful but if anyone makes a device that injects DRM where there was none, it’s Sony

homelessjun ,

@foone drm specifically? or hdcp, the copy protection/encryption method used with hdmi?

if the latter, there are hdcp transmitters. there are several models listed on kramerav[dot]com that have hdmi in and twister pair, such as "HDBaseT" out. these pair with a receiver to convert the twisted pair signal to hdmi.

there reasonably be inline hdcp injector/convertors for hdmi but have not found any so far.

@foone a VCR with HDMI sounds like some @NanoRaptor stuff.

@cass @NanoRaptor so I'm actually not currently using a VCR with HDMI, though they do exist and I have one. I'm using a more regular VCR with an RCA to HDMI adapter.

@foone not sure on HDMI but if you want to make a consumer grade DVD recorder refuse to touch a signal, just put some junk in the horizontal interval on the "front porch" or so

@foone I assume NeTV2 probably could given the other HDCP stuff it can do

@foone This seems like a very convoluted way to break Windows Recall.

@foone@digipres.club avatar

@ocdtrekkie it is, yeah

@foone I will say Telegram had one of the best (ab)uses for DRM in that it lets you share pictures users can't screenshot. I do think just "don't buy a Copilot+" PC may be a simpler solution to avoid Recall though. 😉
