@foone to what nefarious purpose do people put old Minecraft accounts? I mean, it's obviously for some kind of scam, but I can't figure out what scam someone would do in Minecraft. (I have never played, so I'm wholly ignorant of the seedier side of the game.)
I've not sold my minecraft account and part of why is that this has been happening for YEARS and there is no reason to believe they'd stop after I sold it.
They're already going all private-investigator on me to figure out my email and phone number from just my minecraft account name, that name would still be "foone" even if I sold it!
@foone Why do they have an interest in your minecraft account, i mean… i get that occasionally people are sending me - at times ridiculous - offers for any of my three-digit ASn, but a minecraft-account?! Why??
@foone 30 years from now, someone inherited the account. It shows up on antiques roadshow and the appraiser goes yup vintage 2011 special edition, here’s your small fortune at auction
@foone There is a website called NameMC.com that has brewed a very double-edged sword kind of culture that has a lot of positives in preserving history of MC accounts/usernames but also has manifested in account selling and stuff like that
There's a chance that if you claim your profile (log in to a MC server with the account and click the link it gives you in chat) that people may see you as an active user and may discourage them from trying to buy your account due to you "using" the account
Or not... a 5-letter username with no numbers or underscores AND with a Minecon cape (2011 no less) is quite a novelty
@foone Yeah I had a similar thing with TF2. My account has the Apple earbuds because I played TF2 on macOS. I've had people want to trade for it in the game in the past. So the Apple earpods are "rare", I'm keeping them!
