@notjustbikes I had a similar initial response, but hearing it in the context of a set changed my feeling on it. Sub Focus and Dimension's at Printworks showcases it well, I think. The 4x4 moment changes up the energy and the return to DnB proper is a really satisfying resolution. Makes for a nicely dynamic experience: https://youtu.be/rxH2q9VhEXM?si=5rMg4waPoxzI8lUB
@notjustbikes does not sound very DnB to me, and I'm totally not a purist - I love eurodance, donk, or happy hardcore and I love when artists don't make track in a genre (this was the best part of 90s electronic music - no "official" genres yet, people creating new ones and not separating scenes) - though this track is too "poppy" for me. Alison is an EDM ("American EDM", though IIRC she is Australian :) ) and pop artist, so I imagine it ended up on the channel only because of Dimension collab?
@notjustbikes@rwtwm saying it's "modern" shows I am getting old as something from ~8y ago seems fresh in my memory :) but Rockwell's Essential Mix was a super fun and fresh take on DnB for me.
@notjustbikes i think Drum 'n Base is old enough and has served long enough to be permitted to excuse itself from the breakbeat.
Modern dance music IS missing a rhythmically metric expression in the 160 -> 200 BPM range which isnt just hardstyle/jumpstyle/scouse-house/nu-hardcore
@notjustbikes It transitions into DnB at the end. Feels like it falls between the stools for me, rather than having a classic 'genre mash up' feel.
I'm not averse to people trying though.
