@rrustema020@notjustbikes I can’t be the only one that thinks it’s a bit strange that on Bilderdijkstraat, instead of resurfacing (and/or widening) one of the most heavily used fietspadden covered by misaligned bricks and tree roots, we’re instead getting flow experiments. If the city is at all worried about safety, they’d repair the bike path in this area where a tree tore it up last summer, and then they can relieve the hazard cone there of its duties.
@kenmccann@notjustbikes this street is scheduled for a make over. The results of this one experiment are to inform city wide policy, this is not supposed to become a fix for this spot. Before the entire make over there will only be minor fixes to potholes and bumps and such.
@rrustema020@notjustbikes Thanks for the information. That is really great news. Do you happen to have more details on the makeover project? Clearly I’ve grown tired and cranky of this stretch of bike path which I must use often 😆
@kenmccann@notjustbikes it should become a second ring for bicycling, after the first is completed. Essential is that car traffic will be one way only. Why not drop by at the Fietsersbond nearby? Wg-Plein 84
1054 SL. They can talk to all bicycling policy at length and also note your wishes. Teeja is there on Thursday from 12h-15h. Afterwards you surely want to become member (€35 per year) https://www.fietsersbond.nl/word-lid/ or not, and that's fine too.
@rrustema020@notjustbikes I'm not entirely convinced that pushing faster cyclists into the car lane is a particularly good solution to a congested bikepath. This could potentially cause unsafe situations.
A better solution to me would be to see if that bikepath can't be widened somehow. Or perhaps the bikelane and carlane can be merged into a nice and wide fietsstraat?
@Humanius@notjustbikes And the 'fietsstraat' is only an option where the volume of cars is really low. With local destinations, no through traffic. I agree with Amsterdam on those criteria. This particular street is an important ‘artery’ from the car perspective. In the future less so. See black arrow on attached map with vision for the future.
@notjustbikes Originally labelled for 2050, but the political ambition is now to bring that closer to the near future. Leave your e-mail address here https://www.amsterdam.nl/wonen-leefomgeving/amsterdam-maakt-ruimte/ to stay involved as inhabitant. Because it needs to be a bottom-up proces. The generation without grey hair is missing now, while they were the founders of the bicycle movement in the 70s. They can't afford to live in Amsterdam anymore?
