Internet Archive forced to remove 500,000 books after publishers’ court win

Internet Archive fans beg publishers to stop emptying the open library.

Then, on the other side there is the library whose name you should not speak. Just mentioning it. Don't get any books there. It's verboten (= your betters, the publisher, lord over the public word, do NOT like and are not amused). Supposedly there is everything there, I know. It's tempting. But VERBOTEN.

Just wanted to remind people, so they don't inadvertently use the library whose name should not be spoken.

Zoom CEO envisions AI deepfakes attending meetings in your place

Eric Yuan told The Verge that "digital twins" are the future of work.

And anybody thinks the corp will be paying you for sending a ambitiously named program
into the meeting, instead of going yourself?

"Why not spend more time with your family?" -- Indeed, why not? Only this will be unpaid time. You can already have this today, without a "digital twin".

So there's always the debate between QWERTY and alphabetical keyboards, but everyone is missing the obvious way to solve this disagreement.

There's no reason the alphabet HAS to be in that order. It's arbitrary, and English would work almost completely the same if the alphabet was in a different order, you know?

So, let's just put the alphabet in QWERTY order!
It'd solve all our problems from Q to M.

Nah, qwertzuiopü... is the thing.

Don't be exclusionist: Why should anglophone people have the only "cuedoubleyou" which corresponds to the keyboard?

Best thing is, we localize the order of the letters. QW-de, QW-en, QW-ru.

How come I am sensing this feeling of dread now?

It really bugs me how so many people act as if there's a magic "click here to implement [feature]" button, and completely discount the fact that Free Software like Linux is largely developed by unpaid volunteers.

Yeah, sure, they shouldn't need money and resources to implement accessibility features, they are super simple! Every other OS* has them!

*(Windows and Mac, both developed by small mom and pop shops)

I have no problem with Redhat implementing accessibility features. After all they charge for their Linux related services.

Make sense. After all, why wait N days? N times 0 still is 0, so that would be N days wasted.

    +1 recommended action
