Anyone know an easy way to show a full screen image in windows 95?
I thought I could use mspaint but it turns out it adds a 1px border in full-screen mode.

I could write a simple win32 app but that seems like a lot of work for something this simple

@foone iirc pygame (the python library) allows opening/creating a full screen window in just a few lines of code

still requires writing a program technically, but at least it's prolly easier than some other options that do

@foone

I used ACDSee back in the day, but that was decades ago.

@foone Without just doing it in DOS?

@foone IIRC I used vueprint for this back in the day, but i don't know if there are old versions of that handy.

@foone set it as the wallpaper and hide icons/start bar?

@foone I believe there was a clipboard viewer in win95? Maybe it was actually ms paint 🤔. We used it to prank other people's computers:

  1. Take a screenshot of their desktop
  2. view full screen in app
  3. people wondered why they couldn't click on things

** Bonus points if you set it to open up on restart

@foone You could change the "It is now safe to switch off your computer" image 😛

@neko sadly I need to display a 640x480 image so that's not a solution

@foone a web browser in fullscreen mode, perhaps?

@foone

Make it your wallpaper?

But in vb5 or vb6:

  1. Form with border set to None and sized to Screen.Width x Height in FormLoad event
  2. Picturebox (no border) with Resize Event code to size it to the form
  3. Load the image into the Picturebox
  4. Run the project

@foone trivially, you could install irfanview 4.4 and then just hit the fullscreen key

@chriscunningham I was thinking about that but wasn't sure which version to go back to. Thanks!

@foone I was surprised it was as recent as 4.x but then irfanview is like, roughly of the same vintage as mIRC? anyway I finally actually registered it last month which was like decades overdue for one of the greatest services to the windows desktop there has ever been
