I think this is what my next keyboard is gonna look like.

@foone do you enter the value into a buffer first and press scan to send the key code, or do you press scan and enter the value and have the code sent immediately over the wire as you build the binary character?

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@xarph nah! this is a custom macropad for a specific use. you don't use it for typing

xarph ,
@xarph@rusty.cat avatar

@foone oh so this isn't part of the "cursed keyboards" line, it's the "usable but at what cost" line. Like one of those x-men mutants that can turn dark chocolate into white chocolate which seems useless until the right writer makes them their blorbo and then they end the galaxy.

@foone Would getting yourself a small macro pad that supports QMK save some time?

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@Lee_Holmes yeah but it wouldn't be as efficient, it'd be more error-prone, and would be far less fun to build

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

I probably need to resort the 16/12/8/4 buttons in that order

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

Maybe this instead

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

The second design would be a macropad, but the first might be wearable

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

New possibility. I really should have a shift key on this but I think I can make login/fill context sensitive.

kiefac ,
@kiefac@eattherich.club avatar

@foone i don't like all the mystery here... how would one use this to type letters?

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@kiefac you wouldn't! it's a macropad for a specialized workflow

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

HOPEFULLY FINAL EDITION: I've got login/fill split, and I added an ENHANCE button. originally it was going to say "INV. COLOR" but my algorithm is slightly more complicated, thus... "enhance"

timixretroplays ,
@timixretroplays@digipres.club avatar

@foone I could play Commander Keen with this

@foone OK I'll bite, what's with the 12?

ShadowInTheVoid ,
@ShadowInTheVoid@topspicy.social avatar

@foone add 1,2, 64 and 128 keys and make them toggleable so you can enter any 8bit number.
Then add buttons so send the keystrokes for that as hex or the ascii character.
Then you can use it to enter anything you want

Phyxis ,

@foone no ratio of sizes for the 4 .. 16 buttons?

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@Phyxis Nah, because I need all 4 equally often

bruce ,
@bruce@darkmoon.social avatar

@foone @Phyxis
Are you really sure you need the 12 button?
