Anybody need a wet wipe?

@TechConnectify This got me thinking about if the glass got cracked what would happen to the sensor or if it would go haywire if, say, a rock flew up and chipped the glass near to the sensor.

@TechConnectify my 2011 Nissan Juke would put the wipers into their service position the same way.

@TechConnectify definitely not full of targeted shade 😂😂

Love it, this sensor is one of my favorite pieces of simple technology creating significant benefit in functionality.

@TechConnectify Oh no. I haven't even watched it yet and I'm already triggered because the one of my car (Smart, aka "Mercedes") works so stupid bad (well, like half the time or so). I've heard the ones from BMW are as bad as mine.
Well, I get angry at such stuff really, really quickly - and often.
😐

@TechConnectify ah yes, the surprise technology connection to the previous episode, this time on...

also the moral of "read the docs" is appreciated

@TechConnectify I’ve seen Waymo Jaguars trigger their wipers on ambient infrared light from other Waymo vehicles and I still can’t figure out why it happened to match the pattern the sensor expected

@TechConnectify My ID4 has a menu item for it. It's fairly buried so while it's more discoverable, it's quite a bit more annoying to use than the stalk. But at least you GOT a user manual! There's an ID4 manual but you have to download the PDF from VW!

Regardless, super cool to see a deep dive into this. I knew the basics but not so many details. My daughter enjoyed too.

I was shocked to learn that you're not the manuals guy.

@TechConnectify Every time it rains I wonder how this works. Thanks!

@TechConnectify Love it. Would like to see more of these 10-ish mins ones, too. Easier to quickly fit them in in between that annoying thing called ‘work’. 😂

Me, about to click on the video: I bet there's a bimetallic strip involved somewhere.

Video: opens with the EFFORTSTAT.

Heh.

@TechConnectify This was a really good video on a really novel technology. Thank you!

@TechConnectify Enjoying the current video! Annnd... a not really related question, other than you do show your car in the video. I'm thinking of buying an Ioniq 5 used. I was wondering, if you had it to do over again, would you make the same purchase?

TechConnectify OP ,
@TechConnectify@mas.to avatar

@LyleDAL absolutely! I have a few small irritations with it as you do any car, and boy should it have a rear wiper. Really dumb miss on Hyundai's part, there.

But on the whole it's by far the best car I've ever owned, and its extremely fast charging makes it very future-proof. The only thing I'd say is avoid the matte paint options. They're a pain to take care of and will show scuffs you can't buff out - in fact I'm considering having a clear coat put on my car. But gosh it's pretty.

LyleDAL ,
@LyleDAL@universeodon.com avatar

@TechConnectify Yeah, that rear wiper is a standing annoyance for a LOT of owners, at least the ones who post stuff on the youtubes.

OK! Thanks!

@TechConnectify Oh dang, I was just thinking I don't really know how these work and was tempted to look it up. I'll have to watch this later.

@TechConnectify Awesome. I'll watch that later. I've wondered how they work for a while.

@TechConnectify As a UX designer I'm honor bound to say it SHOULDN'T be required that you read the manual. They already have a long list of screens you have to wade through in the display, having a change wipers option seems like a reasonable request

@TechConnectify weeps in Tesla that is missing this cheap sensor and relies instead on regular cameras and software

nilsk ,
@nilsk@chaos.social avatar

@TechConnectify excellent! I always wondered how that works, so I guess I'll be watching the tubes tonight.

@TechConnectify

Oh the one from Patreon already!

I was worried it was that you'd run out of stuff around the house to talk about.

Dishwasher... did that. Electrical outlets... did that a few times... Old Christmas lights I haven't taken down... oh boy I did that... Paper towels??
