Well, I'm curious now — macOS users, are you a "developer" and do you have Finder set to "show hidden files"?

If you're a dev and you have Finder set to "show hidden files"

What hidden files/folders do you typically encounter that you need to mess with on macOS?

fasterthanlime OP ,
@fasterthanlime@hachyderm.io avatar

@kouhai right? same here — either terminal or my code editor, which does show hidden file.

I use Finder for graphical stuff (video editing, etc.) — no hidden files there.

The Zed code editor has an official Linux build now:

has anyone seen a system for reporting issues with open source projects where:

  1. anyone is allowed to report issues with the wrong terminology, which can't be reproduced, without the necessary information, basically doing everything "wrong" for bug reporting
  2. there's no expectation that you'll get help when reporting an issue, or get any answer at all
  3. every so often the maintainers look for themes in the chaos and try to identify things to improve

@b0rk sounds more like telemetry than issue trackers (or town halls tbh)

my experience on the maintainer side is being immediately and profoundly overwhelmed, but perhaps funding and/or additional support could have fixed this.

Dictation models have gotten much better, but most of them have this weird quirk where they insist on ending sentences with "Thanks for watching!"

@dysfun sometimes they do!

@piecritic I hate that this is a RUSTFLAGS that recompiles the entire world IIRC

@rlabrecque I think that's already a thing and it's called "self refinement": https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.07961

edit: according to the paper, it's not great

the worst part about asking for feedback is that now you have feedback to deal with

fasterthanlime OP ,
@fasterthanlime@hachyderm.io avatar

@dysfun Tis a slippery slope for sure

fasterthanlime OP ,
@fasterthanlime@hachyderm.io avatar

> you have at least three selbri in your sentence [...]

actual feedback given by real feedbackers. they have played us for absolute fools.

@unlambda I'm not! If I was, it would've been relevant!
