This is my favorite kind of floppy disk: hand written labels showing all the cool software they downloaded/copied on it.

@foone @gabemg

I remember also doing this with 5.25 inch floppies. 😳

@foone do you scan the labels when uploading to IA & include it as metadata for the files on the disk?

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@itgrrl I try to, yeah.

andrew ,

@foone Na, labels are for wimps, just put the floppy disk in the drive and see what's on it!

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@andrew the last time I did that, batman showed me softcore porn from 2003

andrew ,

@foone Yeah as I said, labels spoil the fun. I'm blind anyway so have no other choice.

@foone I played the shit out of FROCKS which was a "Boulder Dash"-like game called "Herman and the Falling Rocks". Eventually even got the registered version of it which had the a level editor. Probably still have it around here somewhere on a floppy very much like the one in the photo.

@foone I love the fact that it has the date written in it

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@madcap these zips have provenance!

@foone honestly I wish we kept the built in labels when we moved past floppies

it’s so nice, you can just… write stuff

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@residualentropy I know, right? Why don't flash drives just have a paper label side?

puppygirlhornypost ,
@puppygirlhornypost@transfem.social avatar

@foone @residualentropy you're not thinking techy enough foone. Why can't flashdrives have a touchscreen e-ink display that allows user configurable text to label & organize them. That's how you market an idea as revolutionary and get it to catch on /lh

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@puppygirlhornypost @residualentropy I've actually been thinking about this for a while!
I wanted to make a floppy disk with an eink display, and the idea is that you have it in a fake floppy disk container, and it randomizes which games it says it has on it.
So it'll just randomly be "keen4.zip" or "corncob.zip"

@foone
I've been thinking about flash drives with eink screens to show the contents since 2014 and I've not got anywhere yet. Hope you have better success!

@foone Falling Rocks Game… I bet this game rules :O

foone OP ,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@mcc I know, right? I'll have to image this and find out what it is.
I'm guessing a boulder dash clone?

SonnyBonds ,
@SonnyBonds@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@foone I liked when a game could just be "Falling Rocks"

@foone you love to see it
