    @SwiftOnSecurity

    Voting is an emotional shield from realizing that does not matter who you vote for because the system is rigged, and the only solution to that involves unsavoury stuff that you don't want to think about. The bad part is that since voting is useless everything will get worse and worse until eventually everything breaks down and you have to deal with it a anyway. It is a fucked up situation.

    @SwiftOnSecurity I will even consider a blank vote as respectable. At least you did your duty as a citizen. If you don't even bother going, your opinions don't really matter.

    @SwiftOnSecurity that's well put.

    pure principled perfection isn't a position, or a starting point, or even a destination. it is a mind trap for the scared.

    the closest thing to perfrction that will ever exist is progress. the first step is always the most terrifying, take it anyway.

    Yes. Remember the races down the ticket. They are equally important. Moreso this year. Don't use one race to ignore all others.

    Just like cancer, the only way to restore democracy to the US is to completely excise the diseased flesh.
    This can only be achieved if Everyone Votes against the problem.

    Once the disease has been utterly destroyed, the body can heal.

    Ask any cancer survivor is Chemo and Surgery was fun and they will tell you to vote.

    @SwiftOnSecurity @Lazarou America needs to ask itself if it’s ready to lose existing privileges in the worldwide economy.

    If the country turns tyrannical… Where will the experts leave the USA for? Who will abide by USA copyright & patents? Boycotts? Trade agreements? If America is no longer trustworthy as a country, what are the consequences?

    @SwiftOnSecurity Also, choose the least-worst of the viable candidates. Voting for a third-party without ranked-choice voting is, like abstention, a half-vote for the front-runner you hate most.

    @SwiftOnSecurity

    If you want better candidates, you have to vote and keep voting.

    You need to choose the best people in lower positions so they can be prepared to take on greater positions. You need to vote in primaries, to make sure your party standard barer represents its platform the best according to you.

    Democracy is a verb. You do a democracy. And you have to keep doing democracy. Forever. Or it ceases.

    @SwiftOnSecurity the other side of the coin, indeed. as much as i loathe the voting is all it ever takes crowd, i loathe the i dont care about the outcome of the election because i dont like either of the choices even though one is going to send deathsquads to my or my neighbors house and the other one simply isnt crowd.

    @gary_alderson@infosec.exchange avatar

    @SwiftOnSecurity if people opt out they just don't care - your opinion means nothing to them, clearly, and besides - the choice to vote or not is highly personal and should be a right, not a requirement

    @SwiftOnSecurity For the love of this country and democracy everyone should old their nose and vote blue!

    What is likely to happen though is Trump will call the election results illegal and stolen, then scotus will decide that Trump won.

    President Biden must act now or we are all screwed no matter what we do on election day.

    That's quite a bold strategy to get people to vote.

    Some of the lowest voter turnouts are in the poorest communities, so maybe there's something to be garnered from that.

    @SwiftOnSecurity "Vote harder!"

    Everyone should vote, don't get me wrong, but when the people you vote for squander that power, then what?

    @SwiftOnSecurity I'd amend that to "if you can vote but choose not to."
