@SwiftOnSecurity
Amusingly I saw an entirely different survey from another source that showed a different bias, but relatedly was about watches!
It was something like 'Of those of you who own watches, how expensive is your watch?' and went with 'Most watches purchased are over $X'
Just completely ignoring both the market situation (have you tried to buy a cheap watch recently) and the relative amount of people who bought a watch, framing it as everyone wants a fancy watch.
@SwiftOnSecurity Nowadays any mechanical watch (i.e., with gears) passes for "luxury", even though many excellent mechanical watches (automatic or hand-wound) can be had for ~$150. Mechanical watches are in again.
@SwiftOnSecurity I recently started buying and wearing mechanical watches after looking at my Apple Watch and considering what the actual fuck it did for me. Very happy with that decision - awatches look like ass
@SwiftOnSecurity Based on a survey of local residents (N=1), GenZ all have 10 £ Casios they bought "donkeys years ago". The implications for luxury watch makers are disturbing.
@SwiftOnSecurity 7 middle class white male college students who were getting course credit to complete the survey while scrolling tiktok why do you ask?
