Every time DaVinci Resolve shows a green half-triangle or a weird moiré or some CGA-looking pattern instead of my video source, I have a good thought for the people who claim you can just be "really careful with C++" and avoid memory safety issues.
@fasterthanlime The weird thing is that it did that to me in OTHER apps too, so I’ve kinda concluded it might be running out of video RAM or something? Any other explanation is too scary.
@fasterthanlime I suspect it’s a team effort 🤝 since FCP never did that to me so far (but balloons the project files to 800+ GB instead whenever I don’t pay attention)
@fasterthanlime (BTW thanks for the video gear/software summary. I was thinking to replace my Yeti X by some fancy shotgun to improve my sound and get it out of the picture but your reasoning to get a podcaster mic and “eat it” applies 100% to me too and I think you saved me a bunch of euros there)
@hynek (Shortly after writing this piece, I ended up shooting a video with a lapel mic because I finally figured out how to EQ those to make them sound decent. And also because the shot called for it.)
@fasterthanlime Do you mean the pre-dental one where you thank iZotope? 😅 I’m a bit confused on the timeline since I read it later.
I was thinking lapel too but I wonder if I can match the quality of the Yeti X… wouldn’t want to spend money to downgrade. Does “sound decent” mean “my new setup” or “new useful alternative”? I would visually check your videos but I’m traveling rn. 😅
@fasterthanlime I was confused for a long time but then I realized it’s probably s/now/not/. These two words shouldn’t be so easy to mistype against each other!
@fasterthanlime OK, I’m back from travels & finally get to compare!
I’ve spotted the lav in the h2spec video and it seems to sound… smoother… than the how-the-internet-works one? Did you change anything else? Is there some trick to the EQ that you found out? Is it Still Wireless GO II + Lavalier GO as in the blog post?
I’m torn between “my face ain’t getting better, so at least best possible sound” vs “easier setup + less accidental mic punching, just because I move my arms a bit”
