You should get familiar with your own ports. You not gonna flip the ports

mexicancartel ,

I mean, if your manufacturer installed USB ports the wrong way, you have to get familiar to know which direction the ports face(the wrong way if ports are wrong), then you only have to see the usb since you already know the ports

mexicancartel ,

True, but rare. Back of your TV? You'll defenitely see it while plugging in because you wouldn't even know where the ports are otherwise.
Other's devices don't work but you still can flip it three times since thats rare

Yes I did this less than a week ago.

I shrinked the windows main partition(the C: drive) to like only 70gb since i don't want to use it at all, then made a live usb and go with custom partition selection. Then you have to give certain partitions for linux. The /boot/efi should be selected as windows boot partition so both show up in bootloader.

Then you have to create a root and swap partition atleast, and you can have seperate home partition if you want tp install different linux distro without losing data in first linux.

mexicancartel ,

Its more likely caching. They just keep the cache of files opened earlier so that its ready for you if you need it immediately again. Also unused ram is wasted ram

mexicancartel ,

Yes it won't count used ram. But the other person has a "feeling" that linux uses the same ram even when he quit the apps. So that may count.

Use RAM efficiently. There is no point in freeing all ram

This meme is about Free/Libre and Open Source Software(FLOSS) and GNU+Linux

mexicancartel ,

Damn so thats why he ignored the warning... I never understood how he could write Yes, do as I say! by ignoring the obvious warning.

It seemed like he intentionally brick the system just to complain linux is bad

mexicancartel ,

I too wrote something similiar here https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/comment/9956561

But didn't expect it was Windows mentality to ignore all hazardous warnings

mexicancartel ,

The point is, you don't have to be. Appreciate the meme if its good. You don't want to demote the meme because platform is bad

Yeah thats why I use Firefox Focus on mobile. It has no feature to save history. I use normal Firefox in case I want to save history or login permanently

mexicancartel ,

2 billion? Or 20Million?

mexicancartel ,

Hmm "last year" data might be very different over 100 years. It tends to increase towards later dates so its weird to assume its constant

mexicancartel ,

This is so true recently because recently developements in linux OSes are too fast

mexicancartel ,

Do you receive windows updates?

mexicancartel ,

In windows you can't fix it. You leave it there. In linux you can fix, you may try to fix it.

Also the real issue to fix must be at install time for drivers. You wouldn't face that in windows since the devices are preinstalled and configured by manufacturer. If something doesn't work on windows it would be called manufacturer's fault and not windows' fault, so manufacturers make sure its working correctly

mexicancartel ,

Hmmm maybe that depends on your configuration are you on windows 10 or 11?

mexicancartel ,

Maybe thats why. Or do you have dual boot in two different drives?

mexicancartel ,

It already just works in linux. But what people constantly want to "fix" is not fixable in windows. If you don't need that, you still can use linux without so called "fixing"

mexicancartel ,

Windows allows, yes. But its difficult imo. Its not open and configurable so you have to do hacks if you want to place taskbar vertical or somethin. Then it becomes unstable and i guess that has a chance to get reverted with an update

mexicancartel ,

Maybe that problem occurs in relatively bigger updates, which is not now being pushed to win10, or maybe because the way bootloaders and handled may differ in your setup

mexicancartel ,

Linux 0.71.1

mexicancartel ,

Well i was joking previously. But Mint should be great and before installing you can play around in live usb and check if everything works well

mexicancartel ,

You still can make a live USB and check if everything works and play around. Just don't proceed with installation wizard. But remember since its live mode things you save there will not exist(by default) after reboot. Yes you can run linux without installing

mexicancartel ,

Well that also applies to settings and everything. Its a test environment which have temporary storage till reboot. Even apps you install may not exist. But there is some way that you can make the live environment save changes though, someone else has already suggested you ventoy

mexicancartel ,

Its partial fault on all sides that added up.

Ubuntu shipped with that issue for some time and fixed it after some time.

Pop os iso on the download page contained it.

The package came from ubuntu but this issue was not visible since up to date pop os does not have this issue. Only the version in iso. So Pop os too made some mistake.

Linus tried to install steam. The installer does not allow removing necessary packages. He tried to install anyway ignoring all warnings, in cli.

It says if you are so sure, type "Yes, Do as I say!" with all cases and punctuation correct. Why would you be required to type a very specific phrase to install steam? Its a clear warning for confirmation. He too makes mistake by ignoring all warnings.

Not to blame anyone but all of them did partial mistake that added up

mexicancartel ,

Yeah i remember debian installs sysvinit if you apt remove systemd and installs systemd if you apt remove sysvinit

mexicancartel ,

Maybe because its still not a broken state? They could still add init files ig

mexicancartel ,

I mean you still can use cli? So you can technically make an init file and boot?

mexicancartel ,

How are you running apt then?

mexicancartel ,

Oh okay

mexicancartel ,

Would you belive if I tell there are men problem even in "Male-dominant society"? In a male dominant society men are supposed to be dominant and they have pressures to do certain things. Also there are many cases in which women are given more previlages even in laws(atleast here), which makes no sense to distinguish people by sex in laws. You may argue its still due to male dominant culture we previously had but that is one of the men's problem too. Just reminding
